Bio

My roots go back to Buffalo, New York, where I grew up and started playing guitar at age 14. My brother Scott Eagan, (guitarist/bassist/songwriter) gave me a Kramer acoustic guitar. I started taking lessons and gradually started working on writing my own songs. I had been singing already for years in choirs from elementary school and leading up to classical vocal training in college. I knew early on that music was something that was a real part of what my self expression would be. In college I placed an advertisement in the local Buffalo newspaper "Art Voice" seeking fellow musicians to start a band with, and very soon Desert Hum was created. We released a few studio recordings and performed locally in Buffalo for a few years. Next to creating music, college radio made an impact on me and introduced me to an unlimited amount of bands, solo artists, and genres. I began to share my love for music as a disc jockey at the Buffalo State College radio station WBNY in the fall of 1991, and remained a loyal weekly host of an eclectic music program until my departure in May 1996. On occasion I enjoyed the opportunity to fill in for the folk and roots music program at WBNY, "Rooting About", hosted by Al Riess. Searching through Al's extensive world and folk music cabinets in preparation for these shows is what introduced me to music from around the globe and helped me realize my deep appreciation for Indian music. This music exploration not only inspired me and opened my mind to endless music possibilities, but I credit this radio program for broadening and expanding my ear for music to a completely new level, and allowing me to develop my appreciation for so many different genres of music today.

During college, I also began hosting over night shifts as an on-air disc jockey at the commercial modern rock station in Buffalo, NY, 103.3 FM The Edge (WEDG). I did a music promotion internship at Ani Difranco's record label Righteous Babe Records, and in the summer of 1996 I relocated to Los Angeles, California, where I started performing as a solo musician at various coffeehouses, and venues which included; The Mint, Atlas Supper Club, Cat Club, Highland Grounds, and Anastasia's Asylum Coffeehouse. In 2001 I relocated to Boston, Massachusetts to continue my music career and to live closer to my family.

In 2003, I started the very beginnings of learning about Hindustani Classical music by taking voice lessons with Soma Sarkar. It was vital to helping me understand this music much more in depth.  And I had found a life long interest in the music from India that would keep growing with me over many years up until today. When I met fellow singer-songwriter Keith Hampton one day when I was playing guitar in the Boston subway, it led to an opportunity to be a part of his compilation and include my song 'The Point' on Coming Home: Boston Song Collective showcasing local Boston songwriters. Boston performances over the years have included; Kendall Cafe, Middle East Club, TT The Bear's, Third Life Studio, Center for Arts at the Armory, All Asia Cafe, Starbucks (a residency in the Garage, Harvard Square), Carberry's, Killian Hall at MIT, many wonderful open mics at Club Passim, and Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) as part of the Performing Artist Showcase at Cambridge Open Studios in 2012. I have begun collaborting with the very gifted sitar artist Vinayak Sharma, from Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. We performed for CCTV (Cambridge Community Television, Cambirdge, MA) and at the Cambridge Community Center (Cambridge, MA) as part of the 2014 Cambridge Arts Council 'Open Studios' event. It is greatly inspiring to share this unique music collaboration of guitar and sitar. In spring of 2014, we recorded 'For A While' and 'Earth Moves' live in the studio and our collaboration brought out unique qualities of each song in new ways (sitar, voice and guitar).

Along with composing songs with acoustic guitar, I have a true calling for learning about Indian culture, and its music. Over the years I have taken journey's to India to immerse myself in the country, culture, and its music. It is a life changing and musically meaningful growing experience to share and perform my music compositions in both the US and India. Weaving together the essence of Indian classical and folk traditions with acoustic guitar compositions is something that I look forward to continuing for a lifetime.
