"Saeta CD release with Kelli Frances Corrado at the Mars Bar, Friday, January 30"

Saeta CD release with Kelly Frances Corrado at the Mars Bar, Friday, January 30

Last week I recommended the final show for the fantastic neo-riot grrrl band Ms. Led and mentioned that most of the musicians are involved in other projects. Saeta is one, and tonight they are celebrating the release of their latest album (and their first in a few years), Else Another Light Might Go Out. Half of Ms. Led makes up two thirds of Saeta with Lesli Wood and Matt Menovcik. It’s an entirely different feel from Ms. Led, but here the emphasis is on Wood and Menovcik’s gorgeous harmonies (over melodies provided by guitar, piano and cello. Cellist Bob Smolenski rounds out the trio.

Saeta is playing with singer/songwriter Kelli Frances Corrado, who sent me some of her songs a few months ago that I’ve been really enjoying. She has a lovely voice that fits the trip-hoppy beats programmed by former Argo member Justin Benson. Daniel G. Harmann rounds out the bill for a night of beautiful and delicate music by excellent songwriters. - KEXP-Three Imginary Girls

Bio

"An interesting life makes for interesting reading, or in the case of Kelli Frances Corrado, interesting listening. It only makes sense that a songwriter whose been a tap dancer, an army wife, a helper of the homeless, and a music teacher, would write and record her music with a wish list mix of artists, like producer Brian Deck(Iron & Wine, Califone), Jeramy Koepping (Voyager One, Grand Hallway), Grant Olsen (Arthur & Yu), and other cool folk. Kelli Frances Corrado uses orchestration to create songs, and like her wanderous background, the music pulls from a nomadic history. A history that includes four years with the band Arkade, exclusively working with producer Scott Colburn (Animal Collective). Hopscotching from the past to the current, her new music has followed a gypsy map, having been recorded in venues ranging from a warehouse with a six second natural reverb, to a church, a boat house, and a sea plane port and with a band of drop-in musicians whose collective magic becomes her Hocus Pocus Orchestra." -FC, freelance writer
