Babe in Arms

Babe in Arms c Kelly Riley 2011

He reached his hand out towards her tiny little fingers
She had slipped and fallen and was howlin' like prairie dog
He picked her up and with the most grown-up voice he could muster
He said: "Sister, I'll take care of you."

Ten years later, he was standin' at the bus stop, diploma in his knapsack
She brushed the hair from his eyes and handed him his fresh-pressed uniform
He held her tight and with the bravest voice he could muster
He said: "Mama, I'll take care of you."

I'm your father, I'm your hero, I'm your brother
I'm your vision of the world with all its charms
I'll be your hope, I'll be your dreams
All your tomorrows rest on me, my sturdy shoulders
I'm your soldier, I'm your babe in arms

His forty-second Tuesday in convoy through Fallujah
While talking heads back in D.C. tried to hide their tarnished souls
There was a sound, a light, a flash, a pain, a scream
And he heard: "Brother, I'll take care of you."

I'm your father, I'm your hero, I'm your brother
I'm your vision of the world with all its charms
I'll be your hope, I'll be your dreams
All your tomorrows rest on me, my sturdy shoulders
I'm your soldier, I'm your babe in arms

They touched down in St. Louis, fifty miles from his hometown
When they rolled him down the gangway, he saw a little baby girl
She reached out her hand and with the most grown-up voice she could muster
She said: "Daddy, we'll take care of you."
And he thought:

I'm your father, I'm your hero, I'm your brother
I'm your vision of the world with all its charms
I'll be your hope, I'll be your dreams
All your tomorrows rest on me, my weary shoulders
I will always be your soldier, but right now
Just glad to be your babe in arms

Big Blue Ball

Big Blue Ball

Show me the money, give me a sign
I need some space, I need more time
A perfect body, the perfect mate
Lookin' good and feelin' great
Give me a job I love to do
A week's vacation every month or two

A live-in chef, house on the hill
Don't do no taxes, don't pay no bills
Inner fulfillment, world peace
A cure for Cancer, no cavities
Tulips in Winter, cheese with no fat
No more Jerry Springer, bring the ozone layer back

Some say the meek shall inherit the Earth
And little things in life bring it all that it's worth
I tend to differ, I disagree
Give me size and quanity

As long as I'm livin' on this big blue ball
As long as I'm livin' on this big blue ball
As long as I'm livin' on this big blue ball
I want it all

Quiet neighbors, low interest rates
A parking spot when I'm running late
One nice person at the DMV
And while we're at it; let's save the trees
No condo meetings, no guilt from Mom
A faster modem, no more atom bombs

Some say the meek shall inherit the Earth
And little things in life bring it all that it's worth
I tend to differ, I disagree
I can't be shy, gimme what I need

As long as I'm livin' on this big blue ball
As long as I'm livin' on this big blue ball
As long as I'm livin' on this big blue ball
I want it all

I want it all, give me everything
Gimme, gimme ...

Please Mama, Please

Written By: Kelly Riley

Please Mama, Please c Kelly Riley 2011

Maybe I like to sleep 'til ten
Leave empty beer bottles in my den
And I haven't cooked a roast
Or buttered someone's toast
Since God knows when

Maybe I'm gettin' used to all this space
Sprawl out on my bed with cold cream on my face
There's no need to fret
I'm just a little set in my ways

I'm tryin, I'm tryin'
I'm doin' the best I can
You're no big help hangin' around
Scarin' away the men
So, please mama, please
Don't ask me again
When I'm gonna get married

Maybe I should get out a little more
Stop spendin' Friday nights at the groceery store
Wash my hair and shave my legs
Put on a dress and paint my face
And get my lazy butt out of this door

I'm tryin, I'm tryin'
I'm doin' the best I can
You're no big help hangin' around
Scarin' away the men
So, please mama, please
Don't ask me again
When I'm gonna get married

Well, I know you think I'm way too picky
And that I'll die alone
And on my deathbed, I'll proclaim:
"You were right, I was wrong."

I'm tryin, I'm tryin'
I'm doin' the best I can
You're no big help hangin' around
Scarin' away the men
So, please mama, please
Don't ask me again
When I'm gonna get married
