"Ready for the music world"

Kelsey Faludy received her high school diploma from Avon Lake High in the spring. A few weeks later, she performed at The Winchester in Lakewood.
Not that that was the first time the 18-year-old has stepped onto a stage.
“I started writing music when I moved from Colorado to Ohio three years ago; that’s what sort of inspired my music writing,” Faludy said. “When I lived back in Colorado, I performed at different cancer benefits. I generally performed cover songs, but none of my own stuff.”
Faludy; a devoted fan of Fiona Apple, Anna Nalick and Regina Spektor, recently put a band together with the help of Michael Seifert of the recording studio Ante Up Audio on East 36th Street in Cleveland.
The band consists of Dave Padrutt, Michael Seifert, Rufus Jones, Will Bowen, Mike Gould and Faludy.
“Ever since I was little I’ve wanted to sing. My parents have videotapes of me singing along to ‘Phantom of the Opera’ at the age of 4,” Faludy said. “I was that one kid who didn’t decide they wanted to be a doctor. I kept with the fact that I want and love to sing.”
Along with singing and writing her own music, Faludy plays the piano. She began taking lessons when she was 5 and continued for 10 years.
Her hard work is paying off.
On July 24, Faludy opened for balladeer Matt White, who is signed to Geffen Records, in the Cambridge room at the House of Blues in Cleveland. She also recently recorded a CD with Ante Up Audio.
“I really have a passion for playing and sharing music,” Faludy said. “I just recorded an EP this past year with five of my own original songs. I put the band together so we could play shows and start getting out there to develop a fan base.”
In the fall, Faludy will be enrolled at The University of Dayton, where she will be studying vocal performance.
“I am hoping that there will still be many concerts in this area and, hopefully, they will stretch to other areas as well,” she said.
When writing her music, Faludy finds her inspiration in many different places.
“I’ll get inspirations from things in my own life or from friends’ lives or from things that are going on in the world around me,” she said. “Then I develop a story of its own from that.”

Bio

Kelsey Faludy, born in Colorado, has been playing the piano since the age of 4 and singing ever since she could speak. At 5 she began singing for her church, and started in community theater at 7.

She worked with 4 vocal coaches and in July ’03 she entered the Junior US Championships of the Performing Arts in L.A. competing in a wide spectrum of categories from musical theater to pop. She earned 1 bronze medal and 5 silver medals in singing and a gold medal for acting. Throughout the next few years, she sang at cancer benefits. Then, in 2004 she was cast in the film “Ichabod! The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” This role earned her SAG card. The following summer she moved and began her high school sophomore year in Ohio.

She quickly established herself with lead roles in high school musicals and gained extensive training and experience in a highly competitive choir program. But the most significant outcome of the move was that it inspired her interest in music composition – she began writing her own songs, both the lyrics and accompaniment. In the summer of 2006 she began recording a few of her original songs at Ante Up Audio, a studio in downtown Cleveland. The EP is completed and her songs are getting thousands of plays on her My Space website. Individual songs will be available in May for download on www.kelseyfaludy.com.

Her most recent summer concerts were at the Winchester in Lakewood, Ohio and the House of Blues in Cleveland. On August 15, 2007, Kelsey won the featured event on WEOL AM 930 morning show. And in January 2008 one of her songs was featured on Cleveland Q104.

Kelsey is completing her freshman year at University of Dayton where she is studying vocal performance. She was recently accepted into Berklee College of Music, the renowned school for the study of contemporary music, and will begin attending this coming September. She’ll be back in the studio in March to complete recording two of her latest songs, the rock infused ‘Numb’ and the reflective, ‘Naïve.’
