Biography

Kelsey Fry is a singer/songwriter who has extensive experience in performing, recording and acting. Her music can be described as “unique and worldly,” and is reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan and Amanda Marshall. Her powerful and emotional voice communicates heartfelt messages of hope and feeling. She has been seen in Edmonton at numerous events, including the annual Heart of the City Festival, and the Edmonton Folk Music Festival in 2003.

For the last four years, Kelsey has been working with her band, and they have just released their first album as a group called "Sweet Is the Sound".  The band consists of four other musicians: Don Burbridge, Gord Oaks, Browne Anderson, and Neil Hennig. Kelsey writes music collaboratively with her other band mates, as well as on her own. Every member of the group comes from a different musical background, and flavours of folk, rock, jazz, and pop can be heard in their music.

Kelsey has been performing publicly since she was five years old. She wrote her first song at six, and recorded her first independent album for charity at eleven. Before she moved to Edmonton in 1995, she performed at numerous venues in Vancouver. She also recorded a song for Tourism B.C. composed by Michael Baker, accompanied by the London England Symphony Orchestra. In recent years she has performed at many local fundraisers and business events for as many as 3 000 people.

The above is just a small portion of what Kelsey has done. If you would like more detailed information please contact us. Thank you for taking the time to listen.

Lyrics

Innocent

Written By: Gord Oaks

Of all that times that you have spoken
And of all that listening I've done

I've carried that weight of the innocent
Transfixed in the moment, five senses reeling
Watching and waiting with steadfast attention
As the universe came streaming through your voice

And what have we learned about all possibility
The endless creation and who we are now
Who are we now?

Engaging the horizon in your search for eternity
You like the warrior reaching out to heaven
Your time is not waisted

Now are you wise
And what do you know
Have you seen past the surface and
Noticed the miracles given you

Stitched together by fragile sinews and
Fleeting impressions of memory
Acting as though you've rememberd yourself
When day by day you're forgetting
Forgetting

That you breath when no one told you how
And you feel when no one showed you how
And you scream when no one taught you how
And you care when no one else could

Breathing

Written By: Kelsey Fry

I'll never know when I learned to feel
I can't remember when I learned to cry
Does it matter
Does it matter what you teach me?
It matters that you reach me
Am I reaching you?

Go through my life
Always wanting what I know is out of reach
Always trying to hold on but I can't see
And I've never thought of spending any time
Thinking about why I keep on breathing

It's about time
Time I start to feel
Feel real emotion, feel the real me
I continued on, left me behind
Somewhere on the road
That's guiding me through life

Go through my life
Always wanting what I know is out of reach
Always trying to hold on but I can't see
And I've never thought of spending any time
Thinking about why I keep on breathing

Reaching out to things outside
An empty hole in my heart

Go through my life
Always wanting what I know is out of reach
Always trying to hold on but I can't see
And I've never thought of spending any time
Thinking about why I keep on breathing

Sweet is the Sound

Written By: Gord Oaks

Sometimes I can just sit
Still and listen to the sound of your voice
Calling out in song
To the rest of the world
I can hear what you are saying
Even when you don't say a word
I can hear the air move
The mountains shift
The world change

It is good, it is sweet
When all that might drag my mood down
When all that causes me to fear moves aside
And this music lifts me up
Lifts us up and out
Into me, into we, and all

These days of too much to think about
Too much to take
Too much going on and on and on and down and down and down
What if we really listened
What if we really learned how to sing
Together, you and me, us and we
Us and them could not happen again

It is good, it is sweet
When all that might drag my mood down
When all that causes me to fear moves aside
And this music lifts me up
Lifts us up and out
Into me, into we, and all

Listen all, sweet, inside I
Your actions speak louder than words
Inside I know this is the way, today
Sweet is the sound

Sometimes I can just sit
Still and listen to the sound of your voice
Calling out in song
To the rest of the world

It is good, it is sweet
When all that might drag my mood down
When all that causes me to fear moves aside
And this music lifts me up
Lifts us up and out
Into me, into we, and all

Inside I know this is the way, today
Sweet is the sound
