Kenge Kenge Orutu system is a folk Band based in KENYA.Kenge kenge symblise all that is great about East African traditional music. We are the guardians and masters of an ancient but living tradition-breathing new life into Kenya's luo musical roots,continuingits evolution from the hand made instruments of the past.
Kenge Kenge lyrical arrangement reflect lots of influence from popular acoustic origins of B
enga musical style and embrace their luo heritage.
The Band through mastery of the traditional Luo Orutu(Fiddle) and Nyatiti(Lyre) has spearheaded a new way and aproach to how these aged old instruments are playedmuch to the appreciation of contemporary audience.The word Kenge Kenge roughly translate as(a medley fusion of small exhilarating ecstatic instruments)
The instruments are, BUNDE- drums. NYANGILE-Soundbox. ONGENG'O-Metal ring.ASILI-Flute.OPORO- Horn. NNYATITI- Lyre and ORUTU- Fiddle.
The band has performed in a number of world music festivals like,
Womad festival-UK, Womex 2009 edition -Copenhagen.
Way Out festival -Sweden. Spring festival- Israel.
Rosekilde festival-Denmark,Oya festival-Norway and a successful three months tour in the US which was organized by Eye for Talent. In 2014 the band was among the bands which presented Kenya at the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival in DC.
At the moment kenge kenge linked with TICAH(Trust for indigenous culture and health) for a Mentorship program in kenya.
