Kenneth Johnson

BandRockAcoustic

Dark, melodic, soulful, acoustic rock/country

Biography

I'm Kenneth Johnson and I'm the guitar player/singer for the Atlanta based metal band Southern Hostility. A true metal head, but before that I'm a musician first. I started out playing the acoustic guitar and writing more mellow, soulful, meaningful songs. Thats why apart from my band I do solo acoustic shows and I'm currently working on my solo EP at Pigpen Studios in Athens, Ga. There isn't a more honest, revealing, stripped down form of music than just a singer/songwriter with an acoustic guitar. It can be extremely fun but also scary as hell at the same time. I really just love to create and play music. Its my passion, my life. Whether its in my band or with just an acoustic guitar, I cherish the ability to play all types of music and hopefully remain relevant.

Lyrics

Zack's Song

Written By: Kenneth Johnson

Your face covers these empty walls
Your momma cries when your name is called
I do me best to try and crack a smile
Wondering if this life's worthwhile

And my world yeah it turns to black
Because I know you ain't comin' back
Strength to carry on is what I lack
And my world yeah it turns to black

I think of you every single night
The man you'd be and what your like
Since you left a part me has died
And I look to the sky and wonder why?

And my world yeah it turns to black
Because I know you ain't comin' back
Strength to carry on is what I lack
And my world yeah it turns to black

Fading Shell

Written By: Kenneth Johnson

I look into my eyes
But what I see I despise
I listen to your cries
But all I hear are your lies
The sun is sinking down
And the black is setting in
I'm the only one around
I'm getting numb once again
As my shell begins to fade
I wipe the tears from my face

The enemy within
And myself is now my own sin
I walk away from you again
And misery my only friend
As the sweat soaks my shirt
And my flaws are seeping through
This rejection is the worst
So I try to avoid you
As my shell begins to fade
I wipe the tears from my face

Losing Hope

Written By: Kenneth Johnson

The Devil came to see me
And he told me to let go
He said my future's dim
And the light is dark
And now, so is my soul

In the garden of life and pain
I felt you turned your back
So I took the path of deceit and vain
And now, there is no turning back

So I bare witness to the shadows and the lies
Life just seems to worthless now
behind these black eyes
Smile to me is something that I
will never know
As I descend to the place down below

Now I have lost all control
Now I have lost all my soul
Slowly my blood is running cold
Cause now I have lost all my hope

Is there a prayer that I can pray
Before I'm in the ground
Is there anything that I can do
To turn my fate around

Hallowed be thy name I scream
The Bible in my hand
Mercy's not what I believe
Cause you, do not understand

So I bare witness to the shadows and the lies
My life is ending now with the closing of my eyes
Happiness is something that I will never know
I begin the descent to the fires down below

Now I have lost all control
Now I have lost all my soul
Slowly my blood is running cold
Now I have lost all my hope

I fall upon my knees on this my dying day
Ask you to forgive me and take my shame away
I know I spent this life not knowing who you are
But with death's approach I ask you in my heart

But its too late
I chose my faith
So Satan smiles and waits

Set is usually runs between 1 to 2 hours.
I play various covers, but limit 1 to 3 for each set, I prefer to play my original music. I like to play covers of songs that no one would expect to hear acoustically, a la Paranoid by Black Sabbath. No one never expects to hear Paranoid acoustically, but my arrangement sounds great.
