The 16 Bar King , Kenny MacGuyver, is certainly a rarity in the hip hop community. Hailing from the city of Durham in North Carolina, Kenny had to grow "tough skin" and learn to outwit others as a survival tactic of the violent city. These skills helped him in hip hop as well.
Kenny started off his interest in hip hop in the late 90's by battle rapping. At a young age, Kenny won numerous battle competitions by outwitting his opponents! In 2004 he signed a record deal to Syndicate Records out of Washington DC. Here is where Kenny transitioned from street artist to music artist. Honing his craft, Kenny made a decision to speak positivity into his fans through his music. "It's like an On/Off switch" manager Shahidi Cook says, "Kenny can destroy and humiliate an opponent, then turn around and make a timeless record." This is why fans have deemed him "The 16 Bar King".
