Lyrics

Iona

Written By: Kenny Turner

Iona.

(Spoken) Hello, Lachie – how are you? I’m just fine, Sandy – and yourself?
Och, I’m keeping well – and where are you off-to today, then?..
Well, I’m away-over to Glasgow to buy Morag a new dress..
Och, she’ll be the height-of-fashion! Aye!

One day I went shopping in Glasgow,
To buy a new frock for my wife,
The pleasant young counter assistant,
She hailed from the Kingdom of Fife..

She showed me a beautiful tartan,
From the makers in old Paisley town,
I asked her, ‘How much will it cost me today –
- To wrap it and pack it and take it away?’
- The lassie said, ‘Sir, for this dress you will pay -
- One-Hundred and Eighty Five pounds…
..One-Hundred and Eighty Five pounds! -

Now, I’d come all the way from Iona,
But my wallet was back there as-well,
The lassie said, ‘Sir, don’t you worry or fret –
‘You’re a good honest man - I can tell..

She said, ‘Sir, do you own a possession –
- that would act as security?’ –
- like some diamonds or gold or a painting so old..
..Or a boat on the silver sea?....

Do you own a large house or a mansion,
Or a castle that sits on the hill?
- A shiny new car or a Spanish guitar?’ –
- A treasure you keep in a porcelain jar –
- A holiday cottage in sunny Dunbar -
Or a coat for the cold winter chill?...

(Spoken) A coat for the cold winter chill?...
‘Hmmmm’ – do I own a possession? – Now, what do I own??…
.. And I gave it some thought, ….
“I know!”

Chorus:
I own a plough in Iona,
I own a horse and a hen,
I own a duck and a cow and some sheep –
- and my eye-on-a pig in a pen..

I own a cat in Iona
I own a turkey called ‘Guy’
- A goose that I got, and my dog is called ‘Spot’ -
- A goat that I bought when I hadn’t a lot -
- And now when I think - and I’ve given it thought..
I own a lot
I own a lot
I own a lot In Iona… ’ Och Aye!’

(spoken) Well, the lassie said, farm animals..
‘Hmmmm - that’s not what I had in mind’…
…’However’, she said…..

You can’t go away empty-handed,
I’ll call down the manageress,
I’m sure when she sees that you’re honest enough,
You’ll be sailing back home with that dress…

Now the manageress came to see him,
Saying, ‘I own the store on the hill,
I own a big house and a car and a boat, and a coat…
…for the cold winter chill…

‘But I’m sure we can come to agreement,
For this chap who is honest and true,
- So she gave me the dress, all packaged and pressed -
- And sent me back home and wished me the best –
- And bid a farewell to this gentleman guest …
… Saying ‘I’m from Iona too!’

‘She’s from Iona too!!!’ Imagine that?!
And we all joined-in together..

Repeat Chorus.

Just Want You

Just Want You

V1.
I don't wanna think you got it made,
I don't wanna hear that music play
I don't wanna cry cos the girl in the movie loves the guy with the wrong face..
I just want you, I just want you...

V2.
I don't wanna walk out in the rain,
And I don't wanna wait-in-line again,
And I don't wanna tell you how a message in the sand can be nothing in your hands, Baby.
I just want you, I just want you,

Bridge 1:
I don't wanna say goodbye with a lipstick smear and a tear in your eye.
(And) I don't wanna find a way home when my hands keep a-tremblin' and I'm all alone
I don't wanna justify the pain when my heart keeps a-tellin' me I'm going insane..
Cos, I just want you, again and again and again, I just want you - Mmmm

V3.
I don't wanna hear you gotta leave,
And I don't wanna satisfy the need, no,
And I don't wanna know-about-it-all cos you damn-well see it and you won't believe that..
I just want you, I just want you...

Bridge 2:
I don't wanna lay here in the dust and never get to knowin' what went wrong with us,
I don't wanna know the why or when cos we owe it to ourselves to make it right again,
(And) I dont wanna say we didn't try and now I'm hurting and I'm dying for the years you cry...
And I just want you, again and again and again,
I just want you –
I just want you –
I just want you – again and again and again,
I just want you – Mmmmmm..

Leave The Roses (On The Table)

Written By: Kenny Turner

Leave The Roses (On The Table)

The quiet of the evening has been shattered by the sound of your goodbye
Oh, let's not talk about it, I can live my life - without you by my side..
You tell me that you love me, if you loved me you would look into my eyes,
Your kisses lost their tenderness, it's ended.. and I don't know the reason why..

V2
Last night I dropped a coffee cup, I cried and picked the pieces off the floor,
A friend stopped-by to say 'Hello', she saw you.. outside - the flower store,
You called to say you'd soon be home, I stood outside and waited in the rain,
You held my hand so softly, when you closed the door I turned and cried again..

Chorus:
Leave the roses on the table,
...I can't stand to know you'll soon be gone -
Be careful when you lay them down,
The petals lie so scattered all around...

Leave the roses on the table,
Don't crush my heart against the bloody thorn
If I should sleep a thousand years,
Perhaps I'll wake and see -
- that you were never gone - and always there for me..

V3.
The love we knew and held so deep - we shared the tender fragrance from the start,
Your loving touch and warm caress, are pressed into the pages of my heart,
I can't pretend it doesn't hurt, to see those happy pictures on the wall,
How can I ever understand - what happened here? How soon the petals fall...

Chorus:
Leave the roses on the table,
...I can't stand to know you'll soon be gone -
Be careful when you lay them down,
The petals lie so scattered all around...

73. Leave the roses on the table,
I feel my heart against the bloody thorn,
If I should sleep a thousand years,
Perhaps I'll wake and see -
- that you were never gone - and always there for me..

Leave the roses on the table,
Leave the roses on the table...

Losing Interest

Written By: Kenny Turner

Losing Interest

V1.
Waking up to you and I - so in love and starry eyed
Then I said some things that made you blue -
- I couldn't hurt you if I tried
So I've made a promise on this day,
It's a promise I will never break -

I will never say that,
I'll never say that,
I'll never say that again..

V2.
When I hold you in my arms I see,
That you really mean the world to me,
Then you close your eyes and count to ten -
- I don't know what came over me
So I made a promise on this day,
It's a promise I will never break -

I will never say that,
I'll never say that
I'll never say that again.

Bridge:
Love to see that smile,
Something about your style,
Something about that smile,
Beautiful secret smile..

Love to love you, Love -
Beautiful creature of,
Heavenly light above,
Love to love you, Love..

Repeat V1.

I'll never say that,
I'll never say that,
I'll never say that again..

Love, Times & Tears

Written By: Kenny Turner

Love, Times & Tears

Love -
- you have lifted me so high
- in your arms I touch the sky
- and you make me wonder why-yi-yi
Times -
- when we had the chance to grow
- and the minutes went so slow
- and my cup was running o-o-ver

Bridge 1
I waited in the dark and then January came
- No one takes the blame
- Love will never be the same
And I lived a thousand songs before the ice would disappear
no more worries no more fears
no more sorrow no more tears…

Tears -
- only time will break them up
- and the bitter fruit of love
- will be lost within the du-u-ust
Years -
- bring you home to me once more
- the love we knew before
- burns a fire within my sou-o-oul..

Bridge 2
I waited in the dark until February came
- Followed by the rain
- Love can be so vain,
And I lived a thousand songs before the ice would disappear
- Clouds begin to clear
- Precious words I hear...

Chorus:
Love, times and tears, bring me closer through the years to you, to you..
Love, times and tears, bring me closer through the years to you, to you..
Hmmmm….

Years -
- bring you home to me once more
- the love we knew before
- burns a fire within my sou-o-oul..

Rpt. Bridge 2.
Repeat Chorus to fade

Mi Casa Es Su Casa

Written By: Kenny Turner

Mi Casa Es Su Casa

V1.
On a cold and windy night, on the road to New Mexico,
Long-way from home, no gas, no telephone - dark clouds hung low in the sky.
From the storm a flash of light, turned the night into indigo,
Some kid on the road, lit-out all alone, lost in the desert...

V2.
Well, we finally find his home, he runs into his momma's arms,
I bid them, 'so-long' - I must be moving on - and turn my face to the night,
The sky lights-up once more, I see into the woman's eyes,
'You cannot leave us now - I swear a solomn vow, my home is your home'..

Chorus:
Mi casa es su casa,
Please don't turn away,
We welcome you to stay
Mi casa es su casa..

Intro

V3
On a hot and dusty night just east of Albuquerque,
A stranger on the road, with everything he owned, tired and weary..
Through the haze of a midday sun I see into the old man's eyes,
A proud man in his day, I knew he couldn't say - his travels were over.

Rpt. Chorus

Rpt. Chorus

Mi casa es su casa..
Mi casa es su casa..

Discography

As I have only recently discovered my talents for songwriting and want the right musical environment for my work, I have yet to decide where best to present my efforts.

Set List

I have many years of playing and critiqueing musical works. The music I have been involved in could be described as a broad-range of 50s jazz/standards, British '60s and psychadelia, west-coast, 80s jazz-funk, general Americana and also all the finest singers to be heard over the past 50 years.
