Singer-songwriter Kenny Woods of Summit was honored on Thursday, Nov. 29, as a two-time nominee, and a winner for Children's Music Artist of the Year, at the 17th annual Los Angeles Music Awards.

The event was held at the Music Box theater in Holly-wood. Nominated for his inspirational pop song, "The Angels Will Guide You Home," in the Contemporary Christian category, Mr. Woods was also recognized for his original children's song, "Look On The Bright Side of Things (The Potato Chip Song)."

A certified teacher with a degree in music education from New York University, Kenny Woods is also known as music teacher, Mr. Sack, to kindergarteners and first graders at the Early Child-hood Center at Hamilton Terrace School in Berkeley Heights.

The performer and teacher says his dual identity has made him feel "a bit like Clark Kent and Superman. My given name is Kenny Sack, so the kids call me Mr. Sack, and Kenny Woods is my performing name that came to me one day probably because of my love of nature, and it felt perfect. I should probably take up juggling to help me with my career!"

Mr. Sack finds a common purpose as a teacher and a songwriter. He says he writes, "a lot of songs with positive messages for social-emotional development, that I also teach my students at Hamilton Terrace School, including "Look On The Bright Side of Things (The Potato Chip Song)." In fact, this song brought me from Hamilton to Hollywood and I was honored with the LA Music Award for Best Children's Music.

"The first graders," says Mr. Sack, "are big fans of The Potato Chip Song because I taught it to them last year for our winter concert. They still ask to sing it every week I can't wait to show the kids the award because they love that song, and I'm so proud of them for singing it with such spirit in concert.

His other nominated song, "The Angels Will Guide You Home," was written in memory of Mr. Sack's grandmother, Lillian Catoggio, who passed away on Oct. 23 of this year.

Mr. Sack, who was raised in Roselle Park, says he has been a songwriter ever since he could "tickle the ivories. I was a lucky kid because my parents always had a baby grand. My mom trained at Juilliard and she still plays the harp beautifully, and my father studied piano and classical guitar; my brother was very adept at the clarinet, so there was always music going on in the house, and I think that encouraged me to find my own voice as a songwriter."

Mr. Sack, as Kenny Woods, invites listeners to enjoy both of his Los Angeles Music Awards-nominated songs for free, at www.kennywoods.com and www.kennykidsmusic.com.

Bio

Los Angeles Music Award Winning Singer/Songwriter Kenny Woods from Summit, NJ performs his roadhouse blend of piano based pop and introspective folk guitar, with influences ranging from Elton John to Sarah McLachlan.

"Commuting to NYU as a music education voice major, I was frankly inspired by a lot of loneliness and walking down dark city streets. But my music reflects a realm of hope and romanticism as much as it does the forlorn."

With over half a million plays on YouTube and MySpace, the song catalogue of Kenny Woods includes Thankful For You - an original wedding song growing in popularity as couples get married to it across the globe.

Poised to share more of his original songs, Kenny is currently preparing his music to be produced for a brand new EP.
