Not Your Typical Musicians!

String Bean traverses the Americana/Bluegrass musical map with infectious melodies and unstoppable rhythms. They sooth the spirit, rock the house and melt into a seductive, Americana groove ranging in style from bluegrass, folk, country blues, alternative country, to neo-traditional and roots rock. They play known classics with original spice, as well as originals that will get you tapping your feet and singing along.

Ask Kenny Selcer why it is that he plays music, and he's likely to respond as though he was on stage. Without missing a beat, he becomes electric.

He speaks of defying categories, breaking down barriers and fusing idioms and cultures. This musical project, String Bean, was started in 2006 with Rich Caloggero, one of his long-time musical partners. They wanted a group that would expand into the acoustic Americana/Bluegrass world. They eventually hooked up with some of the areas best musicians. The recording band brought a wealth of talent and experience drawing on all kinds of roots: from bluegrass to Cajun to blues to folk all blending into their own brand of Americana/Bluegrass a band called String Bean. In live performance, Kenny and Rich always play with some of the area's top musicians.

String Bean(The recording band) is comprised of some great soloists and accompanists. Theres Rich Caloggero, a wonderful guitarist who names some of his influences as diverse as Jerry Garcia, Mark Knofler, Tony Rice, David Grisman, and Jerry Douglas. Theres Andy Solberg on fiddle whos plays everything from country to jazz. Hes also an accomplished guitarist and bassist. Hes played in Cajun bands and full-out jazz bands. Brad Hallen plays acoustic bass. Hes toured the world with Roomful of Blues, rock band Ministry, The Soul Band, The Monster Mike Welch Band and many others. He brings the blues and roots to the table. Mike Migliozzi is an accomplished percussionist. He plays everything from Cajun to world music and has played everywhere from festivals to clubs. And, then theres Kenny Selcer. A talented musician and singer, has led bands (and done a lot of backing work) playing everything from rock to jazz to all kinds of roots music. Kenny is at equally at home on solo acoustic guitar as he is with a band. He has performed everywhere as a solo singer/songwriter honing his songs and solo performing on the vital New England acoustic scene. He's also led bands from duos to 6 piece led by his mesmerizing guitar & intimate vocals. Whatever the musical situation he paints sparkling vignettes and visions exploring life's complexities and wonders. All in all, with 3 great soloists, years of collective experience, String Bean brings a musical experience rarely seen and is a joy to hear.
