My music is a compilation of folk/roots/alternative music that is reflective of my journey as a human being. I combine my passion for people and their stories with the kind of divine love we all think isn't possible and turning it into reality.

Biography

Ask anyone who has seen Ken Stead perform and they will attest that this is an emerging talent with a very bright future. Growing up in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Ken carried a passion for sports until one day when a chance audition landed him a spot singing in his elementary school choir. It was there that he began a love of music that eventually blossomed into an opportunity to sing in the Broadway musical 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'. The experience left an impassioned and indelible mark on his musical soul. Inspired, he went on to lead a musical church group for 6 years from the piano, and began learning to arrange music while exploring musical dynamics. The band is still together today and plays acoustic alternative music under the name 'Crowded City Skyline'. In the summer of 2003 Ken was in awe watching Eric Bibb perform at the Edmonton Folk Festival. It inspired the combination of the spiritual and the musical realms to connect within Ken's writing ability. Ken's genuine and intuitive sensitivity is reflected in the songs he writes of people and their stories. Through his music you will hear deeply rooted spiritual journeys which gift his listening audience with a glimpse of the divine love we all thought wasn't possible. The songs Ken crafts are soulful, reflective and life affirming. His lyrics create images and feelings that touch his listeners hearts. His delivery is unpretentious and true. His music, combined with a voice that has depth and range, makes this recording an unforgettable and inspirational listening journey. Ken’s solo musical journey began in Edmonton learning the different aspects of the music industry. He began performing open mics every week at, what he would call the best open mic in Canada, Hulbert’s (http://hulberts.ca/portal/). Ken had 30 gigs under his belt within the 5 months he began performing in Edmonton. He learned the all important aspect of music within a community and the community within music. Ken developed his own identity within his performance and honed in on his presentation with the help of local radio host Rhea March (CKUA-www.ckua.org). In the meantime, Ken unbelievably had met the love of his life in an internet chat room. As time went by he decided he couldn’t live without his love Kim and asked her to marry him. Ken left his musical career in Edmonton and now resides in Wyoming, Michigan where he continues to develop his musical career writing new songs of life’s journeys including love and adventure.

Lyrics

Fairytale

Written By: Ken Stead

Found myself standing here left with nothing to say, as she walked away
And the love we never had disappeared, thats OK
I've found myself new oportunity,
ANd I never knew love could be so free

When I saw her smiling on that hill
Thats when she taught me, love was still, possible

I, I wish I could be your fairytale,
The kind of story, forever they will tell
You, you could be my lullaby,
Sung forever and never say goodbye, say goodbye, say goodbye

She gave light to me through those darkest times, now I know why
To give hope to a man who was,
broken down, beat down, kicked around, and left to drown,
Now I've found someone I can hold on to, and it's you

When I saw her smiling on that hill
Thats when she taught me, love was still, possible

I, I wish I could be your fairytale,
The kind of story, forever they will tell
You, you could be my lullaby,
Sung forever and never say goodbye, say goodbye, say goodbye

I, I wish I could be your fairytale,
The kind of story, forever they will tell
You, you could be my lullaby,
Sung forever and never say goodbye, say goodbye, say goodbye

Love Is...

Written By: Ken Stead

Love is patient, but I know that I can't wait for you any more
And I know know love is kind but I haven't been the kindest one to you, and you know it's true.
I have a hero named envy, and his sidekick named jealousy but I want to be saved by you, yes I want to be saved by you.

Love is, the hardest thing of all,
If you figure it out would you give me a call,
I'm contemplating mysery, cuz love is such a mystery,
I just want to be loved by you

I know love should trust, but don't you think that trust is justified in time
I would think that love is hopeful
but I don't think that hope has hope in me
I'm a prisoner of pride, and a soldier of selfishness.
I can't escape these chains of life
No i can't escape these chains of life.

Love is, the hardest thing of all,
If you figure it out would you give me a call,
I'm contemplating mysery, cuz love is such a mystery,
I just want to be loved by you

Start Over

Written By: Ken Stead

When your marks are low and you're feeling the same
When your cars broke down and you're walking again
When your freidns ditched out and left you alone
Left you all alone writing this ol' song

I don't know if you've been told
But its ok if you've got to start over
Start over, Start over

Another diet failed as you step on the scale
When you hit your thumb instead of the nail
When your family won't talk no more
Instead you're watching them walk out that door

I don't know if you've been told
But its ok if you've got to start over
Start over, Start over

When you've realized that you're wrecking the earth
And you don't even know you're own sense of self worth
When your president takes you to war
And you don't even know why you're there any more

I don't know if you've been told
But its ok if you've got to start over
Start over, Start over

Leave Me Where You Found Me

Written By: Ken Stead

When I was a child, you taught me to cry
When you raised your hand, and I would ask why
"won't understand, how to be a man"
well I understand, and Dad you were no man

So I think of you, as I beg for my food

Leave me where you found me please
I was fine without all of these memories
All i wanted was for someone, to keep me warm
through this cold cold night

I swallowed my pride, asked for change as I cried
it had been two years, two years since I've seen you
But yet there you stood, giving what you could
then you walked right by, looking in my eyes

So I think of you, as I beg for my food

Leave me where you found me please
I was fine without all of these memories
All i wanted was for someone, to keep me warm
through this cold cold night

Don't Cry For Me

Written By: Ken Stead

I want you to come see my home
Don’t come with anyone, come alone
To see how I live each day
Different from yours in every way

I don’t think you’ve seen this before
Cracks in the wall and there’s dirt for a floor
Then you ask me how I live
And still look for ways to freely give

Don’t cry for me
I’ll be alright you’ll see
Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry for me

I need to tell you just this
The rich getting richer, the poor getting sick
This room it shelters us five,
With just enough food to keep us alive

I don’t mean to scare you my friend
But love stays around, stays around till the end
I’ve seen you’re kind before
But I think I’ll stay here with my dirt floor

Don’t cry for me
I’ll be alright you’ll see
Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry for me

Because I’ve got what God’s given me
Because I’ve got my family
I’ve still got what God’s given me
So don’t cry for, don’t you cry for me

Don’t cry for me
I’ll be alright you’ll see
Don’t cry for me
I’ll be alright you’ll see
Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry for me

Believe In Me

Written By: Ken Stead

He was born the Son of God, born the King of King's, in Bethlehem
Three wise men who travelled from afar to see, far to see the child of prophecy, they believed

I can't walk on water, I can't change this water into wine,
and thats just fine.
I don't have to fulfill a destiny
To believe in me, believe in me

Abraham he would've sacrificed his son, sacrificed his only one, life has begun
Esther she had bravely gone before her king, trusting God through everything, she believed

I can't walk on water, I can't change this water into wine,
and thats just fine.
I don't have to fulfill a destiny
To believe in me, believe in me

Tell On

Written By: Ken Stead

Grandma you’re a storyteller so, tell on
Tell me bout world war 2 and where they went wrong
Tell me how you crossed the seas in the nineteen forties, and tell me
How you took care of our family

Tell me you walked uphill both ways barefoot in the snow
Tell me how I don’t understand and how I just don’t know
I’m trying to figure out where you’ve been and where you’re from
Not just because you’re my father’s mom

Tell on, tell the world your past
Tell on, your first until your last
Tell on because you can
Tell us all another story again
Tell on because you need to be heard, tell on

Poppa why don’t you tell me about when you used to call
When you used to pack the house at the square dance hall
Tell me when you played hockey and you’d score all them goals
Tell me the stories of old
