 Kentaj Biography

Kentaj is not just your average local lounge soul singer. Imagine the vocal range of Whitney Houston, the soulfulness of John Meyer and the timelessness of Aertha Franklin. She is the intricate coupling of many opposites: something literal, but imaginary; something familiar, but unprecedented.  She’s quite possibly one of the most relatable songstresses around. Her new single, “My Radio”, is a captivating and moving debut that advocates the arrival of a gifted and significant new talent.

Loving music from the age of 8, Kentaj is a musician as well as singer, playing the piano and clarinet. She started to showcase her voice publically in high school. “I always knew that I was meant to sing and being involved in various ensembles led me to believe I had something extraordinary.” 

Soon thereafter, Kentaj began recording songs with local friends from college in hopes of sharing her matchless style of music. She then recorded her debut song, “My Radio”, at a local studio in Columbia, SC. My Radio was well received in the South Carolina music scene in March of 2014 and she continues to receive positive reviews as she performs the single at festivals and showcases.

Kentaj draws inspiration from her musical influences that contribute to her artistry, including Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Jackie Wilson amongst others. There’s a timelessness and warmth in their music that I’ve always admired and wanted to recreate.”

Her sound is a mix of  keys and rhodes along with bass, drums, and acoustic guitar. Add to that the special touch of an organ to give the tune an ounce of gospel/soul within the familiar country tendencies and you have the  syncopated rhythms that make Kentaj a standout artist. She is currently scheduled to release her web series “The New Soul Order” after receiving rave reviews of her debut concert. Her debut album will be released later this year.
