The members of Kentucky Knife Fight, the 5 piece St. Louis based rock band, all bring a myriad of talents and influences to the table. Singer Jason Holler’s background in poetry and admiration of songwriters and front men like Tom Waits and Nick Cave provide a solid foundation of lyrical integrity. Drummer James Baker’s and Guitarist Nate Jones’s adoration of beloved punk and protopunk acts like The Stooges and Johnny Thunders provides a thick framework of riffs and rhythms that are rough and raw around the edges. Bassist Jason Koenig’s and Guitarist Curt Brewer’s finely crafted Jazz leanings help refine those edges. Brewer injects tasteful lead guitar and banjo work that Wes Montgomery, Robbie Krieger, and Jay Farrar would all agree upon. Koenig’s driving bass groove, meanwhile, walks the lines like The Who’s John Entwistle. The smoke of our influences clears, and what's left isn't an imitation. Rather, you'll find a dirty, dynamic twang that fuses dark bluegrass, blues and punk into something that surpasses simple genre pigeonholing.
Kentucky Knife Fight has recently played after parties for The Dead Weather, The Black Keys, and Motorhead, and has shared the stage with The Legendary Shack Shakers, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs, The Black Diamond Heavies, Two Cow Garage (as well as Micah Schnabel of Two Cow during a solo tour), Pokey Lefarge and the South City Three, The Great Crusades, Tubring, The Trip Daddies, NIL8, 7 Shot Screamers, Movie Star Junkies, A Fir Ju Well, Henhouse Prowlers, Rum Drum Ramblers, Target Market and Gentleman Auction House.
