"KENTUCKY KNIFE FIGHT: The Wolf Crept, the Children Slept: CD"

KKF exhumes the shriveled-up corpse of ‘70s punk, cuts it open, and stuffs it full of swaggering rockabilly rhythm. For good measure, it throws in a touch of honky tonk. The lyrics skim through the vulgar lives of shady men driving to places they shouldn’t go, hanging out with the wrong women, drinking too much, and then going back and doing it all again. All that and a killer piano solo. –MP Johnson (Self-released)

"Album Review: Kentucky Knife Fight’s "We’re All Nameless Here""

"The whole band revolves around Jason Holler’s gravelly voice that frequently stretches to its tremulous limits. Holler keys in to the rest of the Knife Fight, providing an incredibly dynamic sound. Besides ripping guitar solos, the music has nice accents from occasional banjo and blues harp, which thankfully takes cues more from Mick Jagger than John Popper."

"Review- 'The Wolf Crept, The Children Slept'"

"Imagine the Replacements suffering through sweltering Midwestern summer nights instead of cold Minnesota winters, and infused with a little less punk and a little more dirty twang, and you have Edwardsville's Kentucky Knife Fight."
-Christian Schaeffer - The Riverfront Times

Bio

The members of Kentucky Knife Fight, the 5 piece St. Louis based rock band, all bring a myriad of talents and influences to the table. Singer Jason Holler’s background in poetry and admiration of songwriters and front men like Tom Waits and Nick Cave provide a solid foundation of lyrical integrity. Drummer James Baker’s and Guitarist Nate Jones’s adoration of beloved punk and protopunk acts like The Stooges and Johnny Thunders provides a thick framework of riffs and rhythms that are rough and raw around the edges. Bassist Jason Koenig’s and Guitarist Curt Brewer’s finely crafted Jazz leanings help refine those edges. Brewer injects tasteful lead guitar and banjo work that Wes Montgomery, Robbie Krieger, and Jay Farrar would all agree upon. Koenig’s driving bass groove, meanwhile, walks the lines like The Who’s John Entwistle. The smoke of our influences clears, and what's left isn't an imitation. Rather, you'll find a dirty, dynamic twang that fuses dark bluegrass, blues and punk into something that surpasses simple genre pigeonholing.

Kentucky Knife Fight has recently played after parties for The Dead Weather, The Black Keys, and Motorhead, and has shared the stage with The Legendary Shack Shakers, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs, The Black Diamond Heavies, Two Cow Garage (as well as Micah Schnabel of Two Cow during a solo tour), Pokey Lefarge and the South City Three, The Great Crusades, Tubring, The Trip Daddies, NIL8, 7 Shot Screamers, Movie Star Junkies, A Fir Ju Well, Henhouse Prowlers, Rum Drum Ramblers, Target Market and Gentleman Auction House.
