""Groove Closet" CD review"

The brainchild of former Electric Skychurch member David deLaski and LA breakbeat native John Kelley, Ball of Waxx is home to many influential DJs-come-producers from the infamous Moontribe milieu. Groove Closet collects their downtempo gems into a nocturnal ritual of innovative sounds ranging from the desert to the sea. DeLaski's own Lord Runningclam sets the mood with "Desert Dress," combining gentle guitar and stark beats overlaid with sensual vocals. Running throughout with muscular yet intimate grooves, Brian Saitzyk's Eastern Sun and Numatic Soul projects, Lucky Wander Boy, Desert Dwellers, DJ Brian's Seed project, Tha Roman and Rara Avis, each lay down sweet electro hydroponics that conjure comparisons from Kruder & Dorfmeister to Mr. Velcro Fastener. It's forward-thinking electronica still in touch with its communal soul, epitomized perfectly by the album's closer, "Rapture at Sea," a rare beauty by John Kelley and Eastern Sun that will literally have you hitting the repeat button countless times in a row. -Yoshi Roads - BPM Magazine

""Limelight" featured in Xbox 360 "Perfect Dark Zero" Videogame and DVD"

Perfect Dark Zero is probably the most compelling reason to go and buy an Xbox360 on release. A prequel to Rare's fantastic N64 game, Perfect Dark Zero is currently slated to be available in both bog-standard everyday edition as well as in a shiny, desirable collector's edition.
So what more do you get with your special edition? Well, you do get a special black metallic case which keeps your beloved discs from harm, a la the Halo 2 collector's edition case. You also get a second DVD which features the usual suspects for a collector's edition: namely a behind the scenes video feature, a 'Hong Kong Sunrise' comic booklet, and a holographic glyph card collectible (cool!), as well as AN EXCLUSIVE MUSIC TRACK, 'LIMELIGHT' BY DJ KEPI AND KAT pulled right from the game. The package will also include some goodies for your Xbox, including a custom skin for the Xbox360 guide (the menu navigator thingie) and some exclusive Perfect Dark Zero gamer pictures for your Xbox live account. The collector's edition is slated to go for 10 bucks more than the standard, going for a reasonable $59.99. No word on UK pricing yet.

"Perfect Dark Zero Soundtrack Revealed"

Ever wondered what sexy stealth sounds like?
by David Adams

October 17, 2005 - Microsoft and label Sumthing Else Music Works today announced the official soundtrack to Perfect Dark Zero, featuring the return of original Perfect Dark composer David Clynick -- along with alt band MorissonPoe and San Francisco house music DJs Kepi and Kat. The soundtrack album is set to drop November 8, giving gamers some musical mollification in the final weeks before the Xbox 360 hits.

Clynick, who worked with Grant Kirkhope on the original N64 game's score, here combines "epic sci-fi soundscapes" with a "hypnotic, electronic dance feel." Legendary producer and Sumthing Else head Nile Rogers selected MorrisonPoe and Kepi and Kat to add to the high energy of the game's music.

"The Perfect Dark Zero soundtrack is one of the tightest, most exciting, kick ass high tech/emo/groove/dance soundtracks ever to drop," said Rogers. "It's gonna rock your world! This is the beginning of the future of game soundtracks. Perfect Dark Zero brings it." - IGN Entertainment (Fox)

""Perfect Dark Zero" Review"

By: Greg Kasavin, Brad Shoemaker
Nov 18th, 2005

"The audio is really impressive so far, complete with quality voice acting and good-sounding weapons. But as we said, we like the music most of all. It's high-tempo electronica that fits the high-tech theme well, but it also just makes you want to tap your foot to the action. Plus, the music kicks in at scripted moments, lending some drama to the single-player proceedings. We really missed the soundtrack in multiplayer." - Yahoo! Games

"Kepi and Kat ROCK the Opel 4yr Anniversary Party in SF"

A fan posted on Tribe:
"My peek moments at the Opel 4 year show are as follows:
When the blond girl was singing in the little room. Wow did she have some lungs on her? I have never seen a live singer perform with a DJ (except for rappers) - they totally rocked the party! Anyway who was she?"

Another fan replies:
"The girl singing upstairs was Kat:

""Pleasure Amplified" show review"

Innovation and in the flesh performances are the name of the game at Levende's newest monthly "Pleasure Amplified". While most DJs pat themselves on the back for playing other people's records, Pleasure Amplified focuses on live vocal and instrumental acompaniment to some loungy licks courtesy of some of SF's finest beatmasters (Kat & Kepi, Sutro, Divasonic and Safar). Grab a glass of wine and get ready to groove to true musicians displaying their talents and skills. (SG) - Nitevibe.com

""Limelight" single review"

Kat's voice is "Killer" in Limelight! To me, she is the song, period. My guess is that everyong that hears or dances to this track will be singing in tune with Kat, no doubt about it...she makes the whole cut. - Disco era legend DJ Howard Metz

""Best Electronic Music Act" 2006"

"So electronic they're featured on video game soundtracks, Kepi and Kat gave our readers the hot bleeps this year. Vigorously mapping the meeting ground of technology and music, taking their show on the road to Burning Man and Ibiza, and combining Kepi's studio engineering and Kat's sensual voice, these two have Bay scenesters all a-twiddle."

Bio

A staple in the West Coast dance club and outdoor-festival scene since 2001, Kepi and Kat have headlined in notable clubs around the country in such places as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle and Portland. They have performed at numerous high-profile outdoor festivals such as the Love Parade and LoveFest in San Francisco, giving the gift of music to thousands of screaming fans.

Kepi (aka Jeff Steinmetz) is a voting member of the Grammy Awards and a classically trained on piano. Seeing trends early, he was the first student at the University of Minnesota to combine music and technology, spawning a customized degree in electronic music.

Kat's vocals have been described as "sensually hypnotic, yet fiery and powerful".

Their fans have spoken and voted the duo "BEST ELECTRONIC MUSIC ACT" in the Bay Area two years in a row! (San Francisco Bay Guardian Readers Poll)

Kepi and Kat have performed internationally in the dance music capitol of Ibiza, Spain, as well as the Diversity Festival on the Sunshine Coast of Canada. They snagged highly coveted spots at the Winter Music Conference in Miami for two years consecutively, playing showcases for Thump Radio and XM Satellite Radio, among others. Kepi’s monthly show “Thump Funk” on XM Satellite’s “The Move” has brought the duo additional national and international exposure.

In 2005, Kepi and Kat released their debut EP "Limelight" which immediately charted on the Balance Record Pool and features remixes from some of San Francisco’s favorite producers. In perhaps their biggest coup yet, their track Limelight was featured in the Xbox 360 launch videogame "Perfect Dark Zero", as well as landing on the limited-edition DVD and CD-soundtrack for the award-winning game.

Kepi & Kat were early trendsetters, being the first electronic music act signed to a digital distribution and licensing deal with the digital music label INgrooves.
