"Giant Robot Review"

People suffering withdrawal symptoms from the Beastie Boys’ absence should try this cd. It starts off strong with lo-fi rapping over music that sounds like a ‘70s TV show theme, and one of the Kerbloki emcees even says he has hot chicks like Magnum! What makes these indie rappers interesting, is that their music is produced like a band, with instruments lending to the overall sound as much as the vocals. I like the Spanish guitar plucking along to the mellow drumbeats on the instrumental “I.T.U.”, and “The Powers That Be” may be the strongest cut of all. [Review by MW]

"Clamor Review"

Major labels usually hop all over a bankable trend, but the one thing they seem to pass up are white rappers. Even with the success of Eminem, the post-Vanilla Ice backlash still remains. It’s not that the talent isn’t out there, case in point: Kerbloki. If the Beastie Boys had made a record in-between Licensed To Ill and Paul’s Boutique, it would be this one. This album is sky high in the “throw your hands in the air and wave them like you just don’t care” department. It is virtually guaranteed that you will hear this album at a party near you which is good because that’s probably why this album was made. It’s surprising that a major label hasn’t grabbed Kerbloki yet. With the popularity of rap, with 80’s nostalgia thrown in, these guys are a sure fire hit. [Review by Jason Ziemniak] - Clamor

"Big Brother Skateboarding Review"

“Thank you, Kerbloki, for being so f--king cool, and thank you, Kerbloki, for playing that show a few weeks back…If I had known ahead of time how much fun I was going to have, I would have baked a cake of thanks for the boys of Kerbloki and decorated it with sugar letters.” “…people compare them a lot to the Beastie Boys, and I guess you can’t not, but you’d think a band that could draw that comparison would somehow bank on that comparison. And Kerbloki doesn’t. They’re totally fresh all on their own…Kerbloki’s the kind of band you’re psyched to get your friends to listen to. They’re, I think, what you’d call a word of mouth band. Listen to the words of my mouth: It’s good.” - Big Brother

"Walk In Line Review(France)"

“The artwork and the guys looks like a punk skate core band at first sight…no way! It is a hip hop trio, really amazing, and play fresh music with several atmospheres. Even if some songs seem to sound more old school, as on “Sombrero”, the most part of the album has a feeling for the new music style throughout the listening. This CD listens very well and never is boring. Most of the time, great sounds and keyboards give sweet melodies but are suddenly staggered by the severity of the hip-hop. A surprising mixture and 12 very beautiful songs…by far the result is surprising and more interesting than fashion victim style bands in the rap music [genre - Walk In Line-French Music Zine

Bio

“BASS TONE MAKE YOU SHIT YOUR PANTS, MOST DEFINITELY FROM A TO THE Z” Kerbloki is Mike (producer/rapper) and JB (drummer/rapper). The North Carolina born and NYC perfected duo offer up original rhymes and blockbuster beats that are captivating everyone from indie hipsters to hip-hop enthusiasts. What originally started as whacked out party tunes has evolved into, you guessed it, whacked out party tunes! Kerbloki began in Manhattan’s East Village as a break from the daily grind of city life, but eventually found its way back home to Chapel Hill, NC. On the heels of an EP in 1999, and the critically acclaimed self-titled LP in 2002, Kerbloki are back with their latest offering, “Poisonous Plants.” With Mike at the boards of their private home studio, the duo mix party lyrics with original music from both live instruments and synths. The result is equal parts old school rap stylings, classic movie scores and post rock instrumentalism. When it comes to live shows, Mike and JB deliver the goods with plenty of market-fresh raps and ass-shakin’ bass tones. Kerbloki have brought their high energy set to stages from coast to coast alongside such great performers as Atom and His Package, legendary turntablist crew, The X-Ecutioners, and fellow NC alumni, Little Brother. If it’s original, good-time party music that you crave, look no further, because you’ve got Kerbloki!
