Kerbloki

People suffering withdrawal symptoms from the Beastie Boys’ absence should try this cd. It starts off strong with lo-fi rapping over music that sounds like a ‘70s TV show theme, and one of the Kerbloki emcees even says he has hot chicks like Magnum! What makes these indie rappers interesting, is that their music is produced like a band, with instruments lending to the overall sound as much as the vocals. I like the Spanish guitar plucking along to the mellow drumbeats on the instrumental “I.T.U.”, and “The Powers That Be” may be the strongest cut of all. [Review by MW]

Major labels usually hop all over a bankable trend, but the one thing they seem to pass up are white rappers. Even with the success of Eminem, the post-Vanilla Ice backlash still remains. It’s not that the talent isn’t out there, case in point: Kerbloki. If the Beastie Boys had made a record in-between Licensed To Ill and Paul’s Boutique, it would be this one. This album is sky high in the “throw your hands in the air and wave them like you just don’t care” department. It is virtually guaranteed that you will hear this album at a party near you which is good because that’s probably why this album was made. It’s surprising that a major label hasn’t grabbed Kerbloki yet. With the popularity of rap, with 80’s nostalgia thrown in, these guys are a sure fire hit. [Review by Jason Ziemniak] - Clamor

“The artwork and the guys looks like a punk skate core band at first sight…no way! It is a hip hop trio, really amazing, and play fresh music with several atmospheres. Even if some songs seem to sound more old school, as on “Sombrero”, the most part of the album has a feeling for the new music style throughout the listening. This CD listens very well and never is boring. Most of the time, great sounds and keyboards give sweet melodies but are suddenly staggered by the severity of the hip-hop.
