Kerry Clark Blues Company (KCBC) is a local band from Pontiac Michigan. Local bands usually don’t merit reviews especially of their first CD but there is something special about KCBC that defies the norm.

First, Kerry is an authentic blues artist with tremendous talent. Kerry arranged all the music on his first CD, plays all the instruments and sings. This is worthy of note in and of itself. Most times when an artist plays and sings everything the sound of the music is mechanical and unemotional. This is not the case with this CD. This CD swings from beginning to end. It truly sounds like a band playing live. There seems to be a delicate interplay between the instruments. From the call and response vocal and guitar work on the Leon Russell/Chuck Blackwell tune “Big Leg Woman” to the gut bucket sound of the traditional blues tune Bluebird. One just can sense that this is the real McCoy.

Second, a sense of history is important in music and unlike other musicians Kerry’s tune selection is like a blues history lesson. Basically, Kerry pays homage to the blues greats from Robert Johnson to Leon Russell. Although he is neither a mimic or copycat his guitar licks are reminiscent of B.B. and Freddie King yet they are more developed than one usually hears in this genre. Kerry has skillfully combined the traditional emotive blues guitar work of those great artists from years gone-by with the technical ability of a Rock guitarist with finely honed chops.

All in all this CD shines with it’s sense of history and the all around great musicianship of Mr.Clark. Kudos to the Kerry Clark Blues Company; we just can’t wait to hear more.
