Turn the speaker up loud, grab your pair of finest boots and tap along until your soles wear thin… Keston Cobblers Club have arrived.
Based on the old Kentish folklore of the old penniless cobbler of Keston, Keston Cobblers Club have successfully brought back everything the legend stood for; music making, collaborating and fun lively raucous events.
Many moons ago, there was a man who mended shoes; the Cobbler. But alas the Cobblers’ business was struggling so he decided to buy a fiddle, and to cheer himself he would play into the early hours of the morning in a rickety old public house in the corner of the village. Before long village folk would gather, laughing and joking and dancing to the rip roaring sounds of the Cobbler’s tunes.
Soon all the hearsay of the merrymaking, toe tapping and jolly dancing spread. The whole village began to bring instruments and kitchen utensils to the public house every night and create merry mayhem and thus Keston Cobblers Club was born.
Almost two centuries later, Keston Cobblers Club still going strong and only just being discovered. The Cobbler’s comprise of brother and sister, Matt and Julia and their life long friends Bethan and Tom, all from the cheery little village of Keston.
Their reputation for professional yet absolute complete DIY approach to legendary. From the recording in their back bedroom and decorating ukuleles, the cobblers do it all with love and passion.
They have a barrage of support from BBC Radio 2 to infamous folk blogs and folk radio stations.
A recent session at Maida Vale for Steve Lamacq is just the start, 2013 looks to be a promising year with sessions with Bob Harris, new albums and live dates, they are set to bring the rip-roaring excitement of the Keston Cobblers Club alive.
It won’t be long before you’re toe tapping, shoe slapping and Dad dancing to the sounds of the Cobblers, but don’t worry, ‘We will heel your soles!’ they sing. The infamous Keston Cobblers Club have arrived and they are not going anywhere soon.
