Dragline

Written By: Kevin Leftwich

Dragline
Hang your hat and coat on the nail by the door
Try not to look outside anymore
Today the dust blocked out the sun
And the streets are empty – there is no one

Try not to remember the fields of green
Or the dragonflies that hunt valley streams
Or the days of soft gentle rains
Or nights of thunder, ashes, and flame

Step lightly on what lies beneath
As you pass wailing and gnashing canine teeth
And faces in the black grainy shadows
That wax and wane in mountain meadows

It’s the mocking bird that sings in the night
at least around here – anyway
It’s sound of crying that brings the night
at least around here – anyway
It’s the sound of the dragline that brings another day
at least around here – anyway
It’s your memories that longs for days
at least around here – anyway
So fold your clothes and place them on the shelf
And close your eyes and pretend you’re somewhere else

Grab your hat and coat as you walk out the door
You know that you don’t belong here anymore
With a fleeting image of when you were young
Ten feet tall and someone
It’s the mocking bird that sings in the night
at least around here – anyway
So fold your clothes and place them on the shelf
And close your eyes and pretend you’re somewhere else

The Heat

Written By: Kevin Leftwich

The Heat

Sometimes we make, and run with, the wrong kind of friends
That take you on a ride, to a place you don’t wanna go
Where you’re caught between police and a street that dead ends
And you find your halo bent and lying by the side of the road

The heat’s coming down on me
I’m pulling at my collar, just trying to breathe
My future now shows clear
But maybe I’ll breathe easy, once I’m far away from here

Funny how the choices you make can creep up on you
And sometimes the past just sticks to you like glue
The way this is turning out, ain’t what I had in mind
Me and the boys I run with, we’re gonna end up doing time

I should have known that this run would be my downfall
Now I’m standing, feet spread apart, my hands on the wall
Lord, do you think it’s too late to ask for some help?
If you get me out of this one; I’ll get out of the next one myself

Just a Little Rain

Written By: Kevin Leftwich

Just a Little Rain

There’s no more work down at the mill
No work anywhere
Spent my last ten dollar bill
It seems so unfair
But it’s alright – it’s just a little rain

She cut her losses and walked
And she ain’t coming back
Mister I can’t pay you off
That’s just a fact
But it’s alright – it’s just a little rain

Troubled times, they never last
Like the rain, they soon will pass
So look a head for the coming change
It’s just a little rain

They took my new house away
Took my new house too
I’m just not able to pay
There’s nothing I can do
But it’s alright – it’s just a little rain

Unemployed and standing in line
Hard times everywhere
Paying for corporate crimes
It’s more than poor folks should bear
But it’s alright – it’s just a little rain

Troubled times, they never last
Like the rain, they soon will pass
So look a head for the coming change
It’s just a little rain

So keep you eye on the coming change
It’s just a little rain

Always Been You

Written By: Kevin Leftwich

Always been you

I first saw you on our high school grounds
Where all of us kids we hanging around
Waking the dead in our small southern town
I never knew it was you

Time slipped by and the dream years passed
We ran hard and we grew up fast
We both got married but it didn’t last
I never knew it was you

Do you feel it, do you feel it too?
The timeless connection between me and you
Do you feel it, down in your soul?
It was you
It’s always been you

Lovers came and lovers went
Loneliness was my torment
The search - would not relent
I never knew it was you

I traveled around far away from home
All of those years I was always alone
Looking for someone to hold my soul
I never knew it was you

Something always seem to remind me of you
Did you experience the same thing too?
Somehow I never saw the clue
I never knew it was you

We met again just the other day
Now our lives are fading to gray
One of two lifetimes has slipped away
I finally recognized you

When Our Dream Comes True

Written By: Kevin Leftwich

When Our Dreams Come True

What a beautiful day, what more can I say
After spending a wonderful night with you
I don’t care what people say, the chips can fall wherever they may
I never cared for their jealousy anyway

When our dream come true
I’ll spend all of my life with you
When our dream come true
I’ll spend all of my time with you

What a beautiful face, what a beautiful place
To be lying all day under the covers with you
We can forget the past, cause we’re together at last
Lying awake and dreaming the whole night through

(Chorus)
(Break)

Bridge:
When our dream come true
When our dream come true
When our dream come true
I’ll spend every single night, every single day,
Every single moment with you

What a beautiful night, the moon’s shinning bright
Casting light on the jet-black waters below
What a beautiful life, the stars aligned just right
Sharing a secret – only you and I know

You Love Me Too

Written By: Kevin Leftwich

You love me too

As the glow of the new day lights your face
I untangle from the night’s embrace
Of loving you the whole night through
And I am grateful, that you love me too

From the secret place, within your arms I fall in between
Awake and beyond my wildest dreams
Drifting in and out of sleep, while our coffee brews
Still amazed that you love me too

Words can only partly describe
What I feel for you, as we take this ride
From what always has been to what will always be
I’m sure you’ll agree because I know you that see
That I am perfect for you, and you’re perfect for me
And I will love you our whole life through, and I know
That you love me too

I have found the lover of my infinite dreams
As it turns out, it turned out to be you
Always, even since before creation, or so it seems
And the best part is, that you love me too
