BandAmericanaSinger/Songwriter

Lou Reed meets Buddy Holly in a seedy bar. Wouldn't you know it: they start playing Hank Williams songs.

Biography

Built upon the tradition of American folk, pop, and country songcraft, Kevin's songs reflect the creative diversity of his world: the Zacatecas man selling helado in the street, the dive near the Capitol, dark secrets of the past...with a few ropes and straps tied on. Just don't ask too many questions.

Call it Modern Rustic American Music. It covers a lot of territory. But forget the map.

Lyrics

Estoy Buscando

Written By: Kevin Archer

I woke up sick in Mexico
In a stranger's bed
Lying cerca de la muerte on the feast day
The marimbas rang in my head
The drummer's broken rhythm
Filled my corazon
In the song that I heard
I knew every word
As if it were my own

Estoy buscando
Buscando el amor
Quiero el amor
Quiero el amor
El amor de mi vida

Along the broken pavement
The singer sold his song
I listened to the fall of many
Soy como Napoleón
All through the city
The altars are prepared
Tonight all the living
Are lovingly giving
Their best to the dead

Estoy buscando
Buscando el amor
Quiero el amor
Quiero el amor…

I search the shadows
Of this ancient city's sun
They both touch me
But I'm held by neither one

Once I heard someone say
You cannot live if you fear death
But can a soul do either
Without a lover's breath?
Sin amor espero en limbo
And my heart is crying
For the living and dead
I see love everywhere
But is there none for the dying?

Estoy buscando
Buscando el amor
Quiero el amor
Quiero el amor…

Shadows of the Sun

Written By: Kevin Archer

A full moon I see
It lights all around me
As I travel through these mountains
There’s a detour up ahead
The lights are flashing red
And I’m counting

1-2-3
All the things you said to me
Have got me wondering
The truth's a fragile thing
So many doubts it brings
Still I keep driving

[Chorus]
And so I travel on
Through the shadows of the sun
Chasing the phases of the moon
And with every mile I spend
I cannot comprehend
Why I’m still so far from you

When this night is done
Then will come the sun
And shine on all we say
And we hope for more
Than what we saw before
And thus will end the day

[Chorus]

There’s a valley in our dreams
When we get there it seems
Like the cold walls of a canyon
At night our only prayer
Is for what we thought was there
But should we leave our dreams abandoned?

[Chorus]

Lonesome Jack

Written By: Kevin Archer

You just can't believe all that you see
There's a lot of people here
But they're not here with me
And you might think that I'd be fine
If you never came back
But if you want the truth I'm just Another Lonesome Jack

Here in this dustbin they call a bar
You never know who
Is going to sweep in through the door
A broken-hearted lover
Or a brother who's sliding back
But once he gets inside he's just
Another Lonesome Jack

"Hey Lonesome Jack!"
You call into the room
A dozen faces stare at you
Sifting through the gloom
With eyes that shine
Neon red and blue
Me I'll be the one in back
The one who's crying over you

Use a little restraint that's all I ask
My new friends don't need to know
That much about my past
I know you got a lot to say
But won't you cut me a little slack
Here inside all you need to say
Is "Hello Lonesome Jack"

"Hey Lonesome Jack!"
You call into the room
A dozen faces stare at you
Sifting through the gloom
With eyes that shine
Neon red and blue
Me I'll be the one in back
The one who's crying over you

Pedro

Written By: Kevin Archer

Pedro he makes his living
Out on the streets of our town
He’s always ringing those silver bells
Pushing his cart around

And he gets his money
Selling them one by one
When he comes into the neighborhood
You ought to see the children run

He knows all the children’s names
And he knows what flavors they’ll choose
When the heat starts to get him down
They drive away his blues

But today it’s a hot one
And he don’t see a soul around
So Pedro he’s a-wondering
What did they do with the whole town?
What happened to the children?
Where did they all go?
Then he sees all the people on the lawn
Down at the funeral home

Though it’s on his usual route
He wonders should he go
To him it don’t seem right
To make money from their sorrow
Respectfully he quiets his bells
Just about to turn and go
Then he hears a little boy shouting
“Hey! Here comes ol’ Pedro!”

You should’ve seen ‘em come alive
Down at the funeral home
He’s bringing comfort to the life
Of the dead man’s wife
With an ice cream cone
And it’s those little things that get to you
That make life worthwhile
Those people were crying a moment ago
But ol’ Pedro he made them smile

Too Many Questions

Written By: Kevin Archer

No, this ain’t my side of town
I just thought I’d wander down
Where the neon vacancy lights show
Park myself in some old dive
Where the values ain’t so high
And see how far down I can go

She’ll see me when I walk in
She’ll leave the table with her friends
And take a seat by me at the bar
Then I’ll smile and buy her a drink
And we’ll neither one pretend to think
That this night can take us very far

And I don’t ask too many questions
Cause there ain’t much I need to know
And when I move from one world to the other
I don’t let the other one show

Yeah, it’s true I’ve got a wife
And she holds me every night
But there’s things a proper lady just doesn’t know
There’s a side she’s never seen
And down inside I’ve got a need
For things I just can’t get at home

And she don’t ask too many questions
Cause there’s things she don’t want to know
And when I move from one world to the other
I don’t let the other one show

So don’t ask too many questions
Cause there ain’t much you need to know
And when you move from one world to the other
Just don’t let the other one show

Jesus Act

Written By: Kevin Archer

You’re everything that’s good
And your standards are impossible
You think you’ll find someone who can measure up
But everyone you meet
You begin to take them apart
And you leave them lying there in pieces

You say you want someone to love you
But you’re never satisfied with that
You think you’re on a mission to save the world
Why don’t you drop the Jesus act?

You come across so sincere
Yeah, the best they’ve ever had
They never doubt the pretty things you say
But underneath the surface
With a lapidary eye
You’re looking for the perfect place to lay the blade

You say you want someone to love you
But you’re never satisfied with that
You think you’re on a mission to save the world
Why don’t you drop the Jesus act?

Bridge:
You think people come to you to save themselves
But they only want one thing
Someone to love them without fail
And while you’re being so careful with the knife
They’re doing the same
But they don’t have to work as hard on you
It’s easy to find the vein

You’re everything that’s good
And your standards are impossible
Maybe someday you will measure up
