Bio

For Kevin Brathwaite, love for music came early, when his father introduced him to the funky rhythms of James Brown and Earth Wind and Fire. During that period, a school buddy gave 8 year-old Kevin his entire KISS collection and over the years Kevin would listen to and study artists like Duran Duran, The Monkees, Bob Marley, The Ohio Players, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin.
Kevin's range of musical tastes would play a large role in his artistic development as he grew older.
In high school, Kevin co-founded Just Cool, a singing group that would go on to join Orin Isaacs’ roster of artists at Bassmint Productions (Michee Mee, Kuya). Soon afterwards,
Kevin decided to go solo and adopted the stage name, Kaybe (a play on his initials). He then joined Lammark Productions and recorded the single, “Natural High”. Its accompanying video garnered him a 1998 MuchMusic Video Award for best R&B/Soul Video, and national recognition, but like Bassmint, Lammark dissolved and Kevin was once again on his own.
Over the following years, he worked with artists like Maestro, Snow and renowned house-music band, King Sunshine. It wasn’t until 2005, he was approached to be the lead
singer in the band God Made Me Funky.
During the next 6 years they released 3 albums,
toured Canada, earned a Juno nomination, guest roled in the film American Pie 6, and performed at 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
With God Made Me Funky currently set to release a new album, Kevin is also once again pursuing a solo career. In collaboration with the production team, The Central Nervous System, he is combining his love of rock music with his soulful voice. More enthusiastic than ever, Kevin is following the path laid down by Jimi Hendrix, The Chambers Brothers, Lenny Kravitz and all ofthe other soul rockers before him.
