"ALMOST FAMOUS: Kevin Davison"

AGE: 34

Hometown: New Minas

CLAIM TO FAME: This country-rock musician is releasing his debut album, Hear, on Oct. 1, and recently competed on CMT's star-search show, Karaoke Star. The episode featuring his performance airs on Oct. 10, and viewers can vote for him at CMT.ca to try and get him into the wildcard slot.

GETTING STARTED: Davison started singing at age four, and his very first performance was singing This Little Light of Mine in front of a large crowd at his church. He started playing guitar when he was 12 or 13, and has been a rhythm guitar player and lead singer in bands ever since.

Davison signed on with Jamie Cooper of OceanVu Records a few months ago, and said he was surprised how fast everything happened.

"We started recording just for something fun to do, and everything came together so well, we thought we'd try to advance it a bit further," Davison said.

ON HIS ALBUM: Davison's debut CD is called Hear because his son, Ben, was born deaf. "He had a device implanted, so after a year of being deaf, he can now hear," Davison said.

INSPIRATION: "I listened to the Beach Boys a lot when I was younger, and I actually strengthed my voice by trying to sing along with them, because they sang so high," Davison said. He also credits the Irish Rovers, Garth Brooks, and Brad Paisley as inspirations.

FUTURE PLANS: "I've had a large fan base in the Valley for the last few years, so I just want to sell lots of music, keep recording, and tour," Davison said.

DAY JOB: He's a full-time paramedic.

FAVE BOOKS: James Patterson novels.

FAVE MOVIE:Road Trip. "I know it's kind of sick, but it's one of my favourites."

ON THE STEREO: Stations that play '60s, '70s and '80s tunes.

FAVE TV SHOWS:Big Brother and The Simpsons.

FAVE FOOD: Pasta and steak.

GUILTY PLEASURE: Cherry cheesecake

WORDS OF WISDOM: "If you stick with it, you can do it."

Bio

When Kevin Davison first learned that his friend’s son had become ill with Rheumatoid Arthritis, he did what came naturally; expressed himself through song. The result was the song “This Little Boy”, a story of this young boy’s pain and how love and medicine can bring relief.

Music comes naturally to Kevin. Born and raised in rural Nova Scotia, he was performing publicly by the age of four. “One of my greatest memories of growing up was listening to my father and his friends sitting around playing music on their guitars”. It was this early exposure to music that has lead Kevin to be the exceptional country music artist that he is today. “I enjoy singing songs that tell a story”, which is evident in the songs performed on his debut EP titled “Hear”. Touching songs such as “Love Can Make You Cry”, a story of the emotions that love can inflict, and “The Old Man & His Son”, a tale of the struggle between a father and his son. These well crafted, beautifully performed country music songs contain stories to which everyone can relate.

When Kevin is not performing for people, he is helping them. He has been a paramedic for the last 9 years in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia where he currently resides with his wife, Angie, and his son, Benjamin. “I love the Valley, I can’t say enough about the good people that live here. Being a paramedic is like my way of saying thanks for the support”

Mainly country rock oriented, Kevin’s music is distinguishable by its richly textured harmonies and flowing melodies. His amazing talent has been showcased throughout Nova Scotia at many events and venues including Casino Nova Scotia and Annapolis Valley 400th Birthday Celebration. Kevin will be touring throughout Nova Scotia in the fall of 2007 in support of his latest release.
