Bio
A singer/songwriter who cut his teeth busking the streets of Asheville, NC, Kevin Jerome has a knack for seeing new angles in old songs. Blending gospel with rock n soul, acoustic & r&b, folk & reggae, Jerome possesses a style that is his own. What's most interesting about his original works is how they blend the literal with the metaphorical. Kevin Jerome clearly is a talented songwriter with surprising depth.
Jerome's musical influences are as eclectic as they come. Bob Dylan inspired his use of the harmonica, which he utilizes in most of his songs. He learned to blend hip-hop and R&B while playing acoustic guitar from Lauren Hill. Curtis Mayfield and Bob Marley taught him that music can be a call to action. But Jerome claims his greatest influence was his church's choir. "They sang A capella, mostly Negro Spirituals. Sometimes Bach and Handel,"Jerome states. "They really opened my eyes and ears to harmonies and dynamics."
Taking a hiatus from the music scene, Jerome began working towards a degree in music. When asked about this decision he said, "I wanted to gain an understanding of what I was doing musically. It has turned out to be one of best moves I've made. I'm growing personally and my music has become more artistic and interesting."
Kevin Jerome is working on his second album which he's looking to release in the summer of 2015.
