Biography

Written at the age of 18, recorded at 19, and released not long after turning 20, Of Whom I Am reflects Kevin Morrison’s mature, distinctive sound which meanders down a modern folk path laden with a plentiful dosage of melodic guitar playing.

The greater Long Beach, California area has played home and host to Morrison’s musical process, including the recording and release of his debut album. Under the wing of uncle and producer Andrew Morrison, the two have fully captured the subtleties of acoustic narratives, like the stand-out track “Company”, a mature rendition of transition in one’s life, to the raw energy of “Hold On”, which bares close kinship to artists like Ryan Adams and The Counting Crows. With the addition of intricate guitar work interlaced through the album, including the epic buildup of songs like “North”, Morrison’s sound is reminiscent of his influences; the mellow, dark meandering of Nick Drake to modern-day jam bands like The Black Crowes. This earthy concoction of one part player, two parts song-writer (which has been known to occasionally trade doses in a live setting) lends itself to listeners and musicians alike. “This record is a collection of points in my life tied together with the opportunity for me to be a guitar player- the title really bears it all.”

Currently splitting his time between Southern California and Seattle’s own University of Washington, Kevin Morrison has taken the road less traveled, and early in his career has set himself apart from his contemporaries. From sun to rain and back, Morrison is rapidly spreading his music up and down the west coast.

Lyrics

Of Whom I Am

Written By: Kevin Morrison

I've learned to count my dreams
I've stored them in boxes for your time of need
Tagged the ones that seem so far away
And threw the rest on my desk to start one of these days

But times are slow and cold
These wilting times once gold
Will someone give a helping hand
And file through this clutter of whom i

Of whom I am
Of whom I am
Of whom I am
Of whom I...of whom I am

I've kept track of all my wounds
I've got that hurt and the pain arranged and pruned
You can see this blossomed hoard
You can tell clearly there are holes in which time has bored

I'm doing alright for this time
But my future's unaligned
Will someone give a helping hand
And file through this clutter of whom I

Of whom I am
Of whom I am
Of whom I am
Of whom I...of whom I am

Company

Written By: Kevin Morrison

I pulled up to San Francisco
What a sight it was to see
If you were here I'd take your hand
'Cause I'm in dire need of company

It'll be two long years away from you
But in just two weeks I've feel blue
So take my shirt and this photography
Just do us a favor, don't forget the past

Like the fog of Portland
I will not disappear
I am the rain of Seattle
I'll never leave you dear

It'll be two long years away from you
But in just two weeks I've feel blue
So take my shirt and this photography
Just do us a favor, don't forget the past

Hold out
Just hold out for a while
Because we'll find out
We'll find out in a while

It'll be two long years away from you
But in just two weeks I've feel blue
So take my shirt and this photography
Just do us a favor, don't forget the past

Hold On

Written By: Kevin Morrison

She walks barefoot in the rain
These subtle things ease the pain
It's a fragile thing to be harmed
Through the flood of new-found fear
She's drowning in her tears
To be there in his arms

But when she smiles it's the ease of Sunday
And when she sings she brings her sun to LA

And yet she can't hold on
To things she seems to need
Why don't you
Hold on to me

Our life tears through the time
As we stitch these souls and mend our minds
We patch up the the sorrow
But as she frays her threads will fall
A ripped up past is recalled
She's broken in tomorrow

But the way she cares moves the tides of the sea
And when she laughs she lights the world for me

And yet she can't hold on
To things she seems to need
Why don't you
Hold on to me
