I thoroughly enjoyed his performance, and was pleased when he offered one of his tracks on this year's International Pop Overthrow compilation. I would be happy to have him play another IPO festival, and as he has expressed interest in playing our festival in Los Angeles in 2009, I will be happy to accomodate his request"

Kevin McGowan Christmas number 1 and strong contender to win the alternative chart

It’s been a fantastic year for Scotland’s very own Kevin McGowan who has dominated the alternative chart for most of the first half of the TopoftheOx competition. Influenced by artists including Dr Bob & Bill W, The Beatles, Pink floyd, The Doors, David Bowie, The Who and The Kinks you can hear the roots of his fantastic sound. His bid to win the competition has been going from strength to strength starting with the dominance of his flagship song ’Give and take’ and followed by a new entry ‘Try’ that has successfully become the alternative charts Christmas number 1.

We recently met Kevin at the latest RockHopper recording of TopoftheOx Live and found Kevin to be lively and oozing character. We also discovered that Kevin plays all the instruments on his recordings. It seems that more and more artists are having to either make do and play all instruments or choose to for whatever reason. Kevin, is certainly not just ‘making do’ as a result of a lack of musical mates or contacts. Each instruments performance has been carefully crafted and mixed with a professional touch. ‘Try’ is no exception and has been formulated over a groovy piano and a well thought out lyric. Although a very different style of music, Kevin’s lyrics as well persona remind you of an early George Van Morrison.

You’ll be able to see a live performance from our leading artist of the alternative chart very soon on TopoftheOx live episode 2. His performance stunned all that listened and we are sure you will be equally stunned when you get to see it.

We understand that Kevin is forming a band and preparing to tour the land with a wealth of new and older material. Making use of today’s technology his musicians in Scotland are preparing to turn this solo project into the join efforts of like minded musicians. They will all benefit greatly from the success of Kevin in the charts. If Kevin’s popularity continues to grow it is obvious that he has one of the best chances at winning his genre.

music man review the zanzibar 14th march
There is such a nice presence about this man you just cannot take your eyes and ears off him.A man with a very natural tone in his voice.A man with strong and precise vocals who sings with clarity,precision and confidence.Every word that came out of his mouth was sung with such feeling you could not help but remain stuck on his performance.The song 'Be here Tonight' most definateley a top tune, but just one of his many winning songs, and I had the pleasure of getting it live on the night.He was spot on,a collection of songs that left you feeling each were quite meaningful to him personally.
