Biography

If you could mix Jim Morrison with Americana, you'd have something along the lines of singer-songwriter, Kevin Scott Pickens. Pickens started writing and playing live music of his own in 2007 exploring his influential roots of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, and others. A published poet and author, it wasn't until 2009 that Pickens began to combine his passion of poetry with his musical influences. After connecting with Grammy-winning John Carter Cash, he recorded a 14-song LP, "The Last Songwriter.' The title track was inspired by the ever-present spirit of Johnny Cash at the Cash Cabin where Pickens recorded with producer Chuck Turner. The LP brought an all-star band together along with country singer, Rebecca Lynn Howard for the duet, "It's Not Easy Loving Me." The buzz from the sessions has already garnered the attention of several record labels and at the time of this writing (4/29/11). He plans to make a decision by summer, 2011. Pickens will begin a tour in promotion of his debut CD later this summer into fall, and will be performing at songwriter festivals and showcases over the next year supporting the release of the much anticipated, "The Last Songwriter."
