Kev Koopa appreciates his fans. He does. And his accolades are nice, but they are not to be confused with his first love: music.
Born and raised as Kevin Fletcher Jr. in Toledo, OH, the 24-year-old DJ recognized his passion for music at a very young age.
“As cliché as it sounds, I was the kid banging on the pots and pans in the kitchen,” he laughs.
The incessant noise led to Fletcher joining his church’s choir at age 13 and eventually picking up several instruments. His genuine love for music made the choice to pursue a career in DJ’ing a no-brainer.
Originally known as The Party Assassin for his ability to “kill” parties, Fletcher began making a name for himself by hosting gigs at house parties and events as a student at the University of Toledo.
In 2009, Fletcher took his abilities to another level by DJ’ing at his fraternity’s house parties and events at night clubs. He branched out to other student organizations (Black Student Union, Latin Student Union, etc.) and traveled to other campuses including Bowling Green State University.
The balance between school and his dreams was difficult, but by January 2011, he debuted his official alias—DJ Kev Koopa.
Kev’s musical influences include a broad range of artists and genres that stem from classical to Brazilian jazz to hip-hop. He is also inspired by DJ greats such as DJ Roc Raida, DJ Scratch, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Steph Floss, DJ Big Lou the Mayor, DJ 1xOne Tyme and others.

To DJ Kev Koopa, the list is impressive.
To Kevin Fletcher Jr., from pot-banging beginnings, the list is humbling.
“It’s funny, my true dream is to make others feel good. To get lost in the music. And to give them the experience of a lifetime. I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way,” he says.
