Bio

In 2008, The Key Ingredients started as a collaboration between Ivory Coast singer and songwriter Bassirima Soro and Tucson Arizona guitarist and songwriter Mike "Doctor Twang" Olson. In addition to writing and performing original songs inspired by the many popular styles to be found in Africa, our signature sound is distinguished by our giant wooden marimba harmonizing with the sometimes sweet, sometimes raunchy sounds of Doctor Twang's guitar; Driving and highly danceable Soukous and Reggae, combined with Rock and Roll and punctuated by our sizzling horn players, make us quite unique. Highlight of 2009 was our road trip to Berkeley, California where we opened for Doctor Twang's mentor, Baba Ken Okulolo and his Afro-Groove ConneXion, at the Ashkenaz.
