"KHAI’S NEW BALLAD “DO YOU GO UP” IS SIMPLY DELIGHTFUL"

Khai blesses this Wednesday with a self-produced ballad that is simply delightful. There isn’t much info about the new singer; he’s only released one song other than this, and already has support from producers like Jai Wolf, Matt DiMona, and Cry Wolf to name a few. Khai has a style of grace and tenderness. His voice is delicate and soothing, almost whispering yet still full of color. The bending rhodes and keys in his productions compliment the catchy melodies. “Do You Go Up” is thoroughly representative of this style. Expect to hear it echoing in your head for the rest of the day.

"(LISTEN) Khai - Do You Go Up (Premiere)"

There's something about the smooth warble of the instrumentals on this track that I simply can't resist.

Coupled with quality vocals, it appears that Khai has managed to hit a soft-spot of mine. And in light of that, I'm here sharing the first single off his debut EP If You.

It'll be available on October 16th via Octal Sound, and can be pre-ordered here. - Indie Shuffle

"NEW MUSIC : KHAI – DO YOU GO UP"

It was only few years ago that Texas was the place to be. And while the influx of transplants has stalled, the music scene there has only gotten stronger (the 2015 line-up for Austin City Limits is incredible; Leon Bridges, who from Forth Worth is topping charts all over). Hearing KHAI‘s “Do You Go Up” is like watching milk blend with black coffee on an early morning weekend. The chorus tip-toes like nostalgia on my mind, that fine line of melancholy and joy, or the epitome of that saying: “Be happy that it happened.” Released Sept. 1st, “Do You Go Up” is KHAI‘s first single off his debut EP ‘If You’. You can also download the single for free here. Get it before it’s gone. - Sodwee (France)

"Khai - "Do You Go Up""

“Do You Go Up” is only the second track that Missouri-based soul vocalist Khai has put out, but it’s easily his best work to date, and the track itself is incredible. It’s minimal, powerful, slightly emotional, and definitely eclectic with its soul and electronic styles, and you’re sure to fall in love with its softly synth-led instrumental. How Khai harnesses it with his delicate tone is pretty special as well, and all of his contributions on the track combined have us entirely intrigued in his debut EP, If You, that’s reported to be released October 16 via Octal Sound. - Hilly Dilly

"Khai - Do You Go Up"

- Pause Musicale (France)

"Khai - Do You Go Up (New Single)"

A few weeks ago we shared an incredible cover of Björk‘s track ‘All Is Full Of Love’ by a newcomer who goes by the name Khai, and this week he has announced he has a debut EP on the way titled If You, and along with the news comes the EP’s stunning lead-single, ‘Do You Go Up’. - Acid Stag

"(Chill/Soul) Khai - Do You Go Up"

In the modern music landscape, savvy artists have been able to identify the need for – and changing preferences towards – certain sounds. Niche artists who rose to fame from seemingly out of nowhere are commonplace; just look at the career arcs of artists like Skrillex revolutionizing dubstep or Thomas Jack in the tropical house realm. For burgeoning musicians, coming to understand one’s own “style” is a creative process of trial and error. As styles fade out of favor, others will rise in popularity. Music fans often don’t realize the void that exists until its filled by the next great sound.

Filling that void in the Future R&B world is a new Missouri-based producer by the name of Khai. With two tracks and less than 1,500 followers to his name, Khai is poised for a monumental rise in late 2015, anchored by his latest release “Do You Go Up”.

This new release, the first single on an upcoming EP, is a bubbly, minimalistic tune that relies heavily on the talented vocals of its creator. What sets Khai’s early masterpiece apart however, is how the instrumentals and production quality equal the impressive vocal aspects. “Do You Go Up” is the epitome of mood music; with a catchy hook and a simple beat structure, it is a tune the listener will want to play on repeat in the company of friends, or alone while lost in thought.

If “Do You Go Up” is any indication of what listeners can expect from Khai in the near future, If You has the potential to be the most impressive debut EP of 2015. Listeners can keep up to date on Khai’s new works on his soundcloud page, while his EP will be released via Octal Sound on October 16th. - The Music Ninja

"Khai Is On His Way Up"

If you’ve been paying attention you’ve heard of Khai by now. He’s been featured in a couple of Bronze Whale and Samuel Proffitt tracks. Now we get a taste of the young artist on his own. His first single “Do You Go Up” is being released on the indie label, Octal Sound, and heralds the much anticipated freshman EP, If You. I’ve been fortunate to already hear the whole EP and I wish I could bring you the whole thing now. It’s that good. However you’ll have to do with this tasty morsel of audio. “Do You Go Up” showcases Khai’s songwriting talents and the magical quality in his voice.

“This song is extremely special to me. I wrote, produced and created the song all off the feeling of vulnerability. After a go around with this girl, all these feelings and emotions were screaming inside of me, so I wrote them all down then sat down with my synthesizer to create the sounds and melodies that make “Do You Go Up”. I really worked hard to create content that made me expose myself at my most vulnerable state. “Do you go up” is about me wanting an outsider to love me so much that they “fly”. It’s the sensation you have when you really want to feel like you are worth loving.” – Khai - Waxhole

"Khai - Do You Go Up"

Up next is a track that should have been up here on the blog earlier, but got misplaced...sorry about that. Time to make up! Here's KHAI with "Do You Go Up", which is an electronica indie track, with lots of ambience and chill out vibes, thanks to the soft synths accompanying the smooth vocal. This is love making music basically and it's Sunday...so perfect combo! There's a free download you can pick up too! - Music You Wanna Listen To

Bio

Singer/Songwriter and Producer Khai released his debut single "Do You Go Up" in September of 2015 on boutique Nashville based label, Octal Sound. Within a week the song had racked up over 100k plays on Soundcloud and had attracted the support of Majestic CasualPigeons and PlanesNest HQ and Indie Shuffle. The song currently has over 1.5M streams on Soundcloud alone. After the success of his first single, Khai was in a perfect position to release his debut EP "If You" which charted in the top 30 on iTunes electronic albums chart.

In December of 2015, The Huffington Post included Khai in their "2015 Recommendations for Every Type of Pop Culture Fan."

Khai made his performance debut to capacity crowds at the 2016 SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX. Among Khai's showcases was an intimate performance at the historic Arlyn Studios for Adrian Greenier's Wreckroom Records event.

The success of Khai's debut single "Do You Go Up" left many fans wanting more. At the beginning of 2016, Khai spent time traveling, writing, and working on his live show. He made sure to hold off on releasing new music until he knew he had a song that could make an even greater impact than his last. He found that in "Alive." Alive was first debuted during his sets at SXSW Music Festival in March of 2016. After the festival, Khai spent weeks in the studio fine tuning the lyrics, production, and mixing, before deciding it was ready to be released.

During late April of 2016, the decision was made to release Alive independently after being rejected by multiple labels and it was sent to distribution with a June 8th release date. Over the next month, Khai and his team kept silent about the song. Between June 5th - 7th a series of social media posts announced that Alive would be releasing "Any day now", Khai is headlining a show at Bardot in Hollywood, CA (July 1st) with collaborator and friend, CYN, and Alive would be out June 8th. The song has over 500K streams on Spotify and was added to 20K playlists.
