The best kept secret in music

Press

Material: Khaliah’s music crosses the borders between R&B, jazz, pop-rock, fusion and funk. While the sound hints at elements taken from Chaka Khan and Tina Turner, Khaliah as a singer is by no means a clone, and her songs stand out as originals. Filled with grooving beats, catchy melodies and clear lyrics, the material is performed with talent that fits the bill to a tee.

Musicianship: Khaliah’s entire band is filled with top-notch players, but she shines the brightest as its leader. Her voice is wonderful and she seems most comfortable with the up-tempo songs, slowing down slightly for one ballad that comes across smooth and sultry. Shauna Leigh Alexander and Doreese Norman’s backup vocals are incredible and blend beautifully as they deliver each refrain to its fullest. There is not a weak link in this entire seven-piece. Every member plays at a professional level and performs with stylistic versatility that offers valuable contributions to the music.

Performance: Displaying obvious talent at this gig. Khaliah’s energy level was always high. All three ladies danced to a well-choreographed set, while not appearing to look too rehearsed in their moves. Khaliah performed a dance solo in a very original belly-dance/gypsy style, which was fresh and entertaining, especially in an R&B setting. She connected well with the audience, introducing each song as well as graciously introducing the band members during a number where each displayed their talents with a solo note or two.

Summary: Khaliah is an entertaining artist with loads of talent and well-crafted songs. Even established and national acts would be fearful to follow this act. Khaliah is the real deal, plain and simple.

Bio

Khaliah was born and raised in Kansas City where she was exposed to a wide range of musical genres and styles, which shaped her undefinable musical appeal. From an early age, Khaliah nurtured her love for music through a variety of musical outlets including orchestra, band, and musical theater. She traveled the world with professional touring companies before coming to Los Angeles to begin her career in the record business.

Khaliah is now a regular performer at many local Los Angeles live music venues. A band of outstanding musicians accompanies her and has helped create her signature live sound. Khaliah also produces and hosts her own event, Sovereign, where she performs her original material and invites other independent artists to showcase their talents in front of a live audience.

Her debut album, New Category, is a reflection of Khaliah's creative, independent spirit, and her desire to reach her listeners through the purity of music, the resonance of lyrics and the souls of live musicians. Taking those elements and combining them with her love for Hip-Hop and its culture, this Kansas City native is prepared to give music lovers something they haven't heard before. Music Connection Magazine wrote that Khaliah's music "crosses the borders between R&B, jazz, pop-rock, fusion and funk...[she] is an entertaining artist with loads of talent and well-crafted songs. Even establised and national acts would be fearful to follow this act. Khaliah is the real deal, plain and simple." Khaliah takes unlikely mixes of musical styles and combines them with her uncanny ability for writing lyrics to produce a song that is uniquely hers. Listeners from diverse backgrounds appreciate her ability to connect with the audience and touch everyone with her intoxicating blend of styles.
