"Khalilah Ali Press Review"

Khalilah Ali of the others (Thomas Bess, Jr. and Adonis). She is like a sexy unsigned hype. Not just sexy for her look- but her mic control and flow are incredible. She did not miss a beat and she commanded everyone's attention. She dropped socially relevant songs like "Prisoner's Wife," a song about the emotional perils of prison as well as the autobiographical "Live How I Wanna Live." This mother of two is the best of what hip- hop has to offer but has yet to sample. Great things in the future for this woman

Khalilah Ali Bio

Khalilah Ali has been rapping since she was nine years old championing battles in the school yards of her native Youngstown, Ohio from that tender age she was besting even the most seasoned male emcees. Compared to Nas because of her ability to weave a street tale and to Lauren Hill due to both her heartfelt renditions over acoustic guitar and her socially conscious content, the Atlanta artist’s current EP, Ancient Immortals, hosted by DJ AppleJac, will position this poetic titan in that league of extraordinary company.

As a doctoral candidate and member of FTP’s Speaker’s Bureau the activist, artist, scholar’s work is featured on the Food Clothes and Shelter: The Street Album compilation, DJ Mafioso and Jungle 45 Queens of the Konkrete mixtape, and Thomas Bess’ Action Theory. Khalilah’s own album is an eclectic composition of intriguing vocals, unique lyrics, and amazing acoustics. Though Khalilah gives an exceedingly reality based portrait of life for the working and impoverished classes the poet-emcees latest effort is also redemptive in tone.

As a child of the hip-hop generation she boldly flips the label "conscious lyricist" and instead considers herself a content-driven lyricist. As an educator and lecturer Khalilah works with poets, musicians and emcees in several projects designed to expose positive hip-hop to a wider audience. Khalilah's academic research in Critical Race Feminism and Postcolonial studies allows her to envision a world that deals with the effects of inequity and how dealing with that can help devise steps to afford all humanity an equal playing field.
