Biography

Carmella LaShawndaAnn Turner aka “Khar-Mellah was born and raised in Columbus Ohio on August, 1983. Khar-Mellah comes from a musical background, her father Clifford Turner Jr., plays the saxophone. He is my greatest inspiration. He would keep the whole house up till the wee hours of the morning practicing for the next evenings gig. Seeing my father never put down his saxophone with all the things life put him through, let me know that I can take on the bad. Being a singer and songwriter my music is based on true life experiences such as things in the past, things of the present, and even though no one can really predict the future. Whenever you hear my voice on my record I wrote it, but if you hear someone else on my track, chances are they wrote their own lyrics. Even when I was into the gangster Rap and nonsense, I put my real life and what I was foolishly going through in the streets to keep my neck above water in my music. I no longer am a gangster Rapper, I still write about the other things in my life that have made me successful. Tupac and Mary J. Blige are Khar-Mellah’s favorite artists they take music to a personal level, and involve real things and real life experiences. Khar-Mellah writes from the heart and life’s experiences. Those are the key elements that keep a true writer writing. Not writing what someone else went through but what they have personally endured. Khar-Mellah wants to give some healing and help to those that she knows have went through just as many trying times as she has. If you can’t help somebody and touch somebody with your craft and your music, then music isn’t your calling. People see me as un-predictable…you won’t get me the same way you got me the day before, or last week, or an hour ago. I’m always up to something new and something different. Some say Khar-Mellah has a multiple personalities, and that maybe just why none of my songs sound the same. Each personality has a different way of expressing “song” and style. Adlibs are my trademark, not only what I say but how I say them as well as; the cool noises and things I add in the background. Listen hard enough and you’ll notice I usually make some type of growling sounds, and nerdy kid-like laughs all through my music. I feel no female can do what I’m doing and am never going to do what I do. There can only be one me and I feel everyone has a specialty or a signature. But from every time you press play or go to the next song, you will never once hear the same style….only the same voice. Khar-Mellah has worked with Bizzy Bone when she was sixteen. As well as, Montel Darret, former famed Gospel Group “Commissioned”. Khar-Mellah is always on her grind performing locally at such venues as Scarlet-n-Grey, Skully’s, High Five, CNS, C.B.R, and Major Woody’s. Having been featured on five mixtapes to date, always in the studio making magic happen. wants to give some healing and help to those that she knows have went through just as many trying times as she has. If you can’t help somebody and touch somebody with your craft and your music, then music isn’t your calling.
