Khofa

Born Terry Smith in 1995, Khofa is a San Diego-based rapper known for his own brand of hip-hop-infused soul music. His sample based, experimental arrangements often show up-to-the-minute aesthetic and relevancy. Terry's love for music came at an early age: sneaking his uncles cassette tapes into a back room where he would learn the lyrics to his favorite songs, and having his grand mother & his oldest brother expose him to wide range of talent, from Miles Davis, The O'jays, Marvin Gaye, To 2pac, Nas, Biggie & many more . This diverse background taste, at an impressionable age, led young Terry create his very own lyrics.

      Around age nine, Terry began to write down lyrics in a notebook that would later become somewhat of a lyrical diary. He did not perform these songs for praise, but kept them hidden and personal - the trait of a craftsman. Terry eventually breaks his prepubescent shyness and performs verses and freestyles for likes of Kendrick Lamar, Ab-soul and Schoolboy Q in a beautifully twisted chain of coincidence and pure luck. This was just the inspiration Terry needed, He would soon begin performing and opening for acts like Iamsu!, Kevin Gates, YG, Problem, Freddie Gibbs, Big K.R.I.T, Rich The Kid, Young Thug, Lil B, Migos, etc. 

      For Terry "Khofa" inspiration does not only stem from heartbreak and life lesson's learned at an early age. Terry Believes in appreciating all art forms including literature, film, philosophy, architecture, concerts, festivals, sculpture, and paintings. Stylistically, he has been receiving influence from the rising L.A. Beat scene acts like Nosaj Thing. Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Shlohmo, Lapalux, various artist from Soulection and many more that are changing the musical landscape, which lead to Khofa's awareness of the innovations and lanes being created for lyricist's in 2015.
