"New Artist: KIDCITY"

I really wanted to title this post “New f**ng awesome artist” but I refrained because I don’t curse like that. Anyways: KIDCITY. KIDCITY are from Toronto. I knew I liked this track about 10 seconds into it and the crush kept growing and growing from there.

KIDCITY is Kelly Ann and Caleb, both 21, and both from Toronto. They call their talent “clip-hop electronic pop” – mmm, dark pop songs. love. Check out their self-titled EP, with the latest released track “Blackened,” below.

KIDCITY is another artist off of Banter Media & Management, whose growing roster are featured on forthebeat (by accident sometimes) most every week, we pretty much agree with everyone they love/decide to take on their list. - For The Beat

"Album Review: KIDCITY's self titled KIDCITY EP"

Peter Pan’s Neverland ain’t got nothing on KIDCITY. A fantasy world of winter fairytales meet two weathered 21-year-olds, Kelly Ann and Caleb, in the outskirts of Toronto. Title track “Bloody Face” experiments with heavy Dr. Dre drabness, opening the EP with an incredibly doleful dose of dark beats. Hip-hop contrasts electro alien abductions throughout. Kelly Ann sounds like Enya and Evanescence on a trip-hop journey through the underworld. KIDCITY’s self-defined sound, “clip-hop” offers classic, celtic pop echoes, and overloaded sub symphonics.

The soulful second, “Blackened” clips straight from lullaby synth nightmares, while the arctic dub ‘n base forms ice around your ears on the sallow complected “Phryne.” The song calls like the Greek courtesan herself, with cautious vulnerability and dangerous presentation. Explosive ghetto-goth chamber drums announce the celestial, “Insurance,” calling the heavens for assistance. Meanwhile the contrary “All Grown Up, challenges the premise of KIDCITY’s infantile Narnia dreaming, with a magical escape from uncertainty, with its dramatic intro, stark drums and elegant windups. But, the grand finale, “Values” sends us back into the adventure of this EP with a unique pop-hop utterance.

Few albums this year have confused and inspired the way this EP has frozen my heart. You can download the entire experience here: http://www.kkidcityy.com/ - Gozamos

Canada’s KidCity send us a very eclectic and hypnotizing mix, containing tracks from bands as diverse as Mount Eeire, Dr. Dre, Tom Waits or Panda Bear.

In their music flow influences like hip hop, experimental, electronic music or atmospherical pop, and exactly this is what you’ll find in the mixtape.

They descrive their style in a recent interview as clip-hop. Feeling curious? Check out their website and download for free their debut EP Bloodyface.

Notice not all songs in the mix are precisely easy-listening, but it makes finding a right time for it worth.

Hope you enjoy it! - Some Velvet Mixtapes

"KIDCITY, And The Guaranteed ANBAD Money-Generation Scheme"

Kid City‘s Bloody Face is one of those songs that often gets described as ‘icy’ and ‘crystalline’, often by writers pushed for time (like this one) – but these clichés exist for good reason.

Songs along these lines often sound drab, or boring, or like pale imitations of – shudder – Zero 7. Kid City have taken care to avoid these pitfalls with a combination of Kraftwerkian beat-dollops, leftfield-synth noises and jabbering lyrics that aren’t too serious.

It works well, and if they play their cards right – or simply charge for them – fortune can be theirs, too. Good stuff. - A New Band A Day

"WHAT'S HOT"

Here’s a list of things that Toronto’s Kidcity may like, based on their track ‘Bloody Face’ and their press shot. Fur hats, Kate Bush, Enya, warbling, space invasion synth action, hip hop, deep grinding bass-lines, snow, oversized scarves, walking. The song is taken from the duo’s forthcoming self-titled EP, which is out on May 31, and you can listen to the track here: - Bowlegs Modern Music Review

"10 Questions With Canada’s KIDCITY"

As a music listener, it’s always good to step outside of the box ––– and your comfort zone ––– and embrace something new. Over the past week I have found myself entranced and captivated by the music of the Canadian duo KIDCITY. Comprised of 21-year-olds Kelly Ann and Caleb the group performs self-described “clip-hop,” and cites Dr. Dre and Enya as influences.
Truth be told, those two artists are a good jumping off point when trying to describe the musical landscape of KIDCITY. It’s dark, it’s moody, it thumps, it shivers and it shakes. But underneath all the cacophony is an angelic voice, a definitive ear for melody and a pop landscape that’s attention-worthy and indelible. Because their sound is almost too hard to define, I recently had the chance to interview the band, and the duo was kind enough to offer replies.
Without further ado, here’s 10 questions with Toronto upstarts KIDCITY, a band I predict will sweep the blogosphere and hipster circles by year’s end... - Resident Media Pundit

"Ones to Watch in 2011: KIDCITY"

KIDCITY (AKA Kelly Ann and Caleb) is definitely worth your time. These two 21 year old college friends from the outskirts of Toronto call their style of music - "clip-hop," drawing heavily on both hip-hop and electronica music. The end result is a rich, dark, melodic sound that leaves the listener entranced and wanting more. The duo is set to release their self-titled EP on May 31st. Give the very trippy "Bloody Face" a listen below and if you like what you hear, download it! Definitely keep an ear out for these guys in the future. - Music Is My King Sized Bed

KIDCITY is the music of two 21-year-olds, Kelly Ann and Caleb, from the outskirts of Toronto. Somewhere between Enya and Dr. Dre, the twosome employ a gritty sound which they smilingly dub as “clip-hop” – or for all intents and purposes: dark, melodic pop songs with an overloaded signal.

Their self-titled EP, out 5/31/11, draws on hip-hop and electronic heaviness – a sound that they effectively refined after deciding to step out of the practice rooms at the University of Toronto and into a quasi-bedroom studio in the suburbs. The duo got their name from one of Kelly’s brothers-in-law, though they aren’t sure which one.
