I first came across Kid Named NOVA in 2013 when I found his music on SoundCloud. When I moved to New York City in 2014, I ended up meeting him at Rap Skool in Brooklyn. After I was introduced to him, we began talking and exchanging information. Once I got home I took a listen to his second EP, One Way Ticket 2 Brooklyn and was instantly impressed of the 21 year old emcee/producer. With all the tracks produced by Asethic, Kid Named NOVA brings solid punch lines with a smooth flow, bar after bar. An ambitious go-getter, this young buck has been producing and writing since 14 years old, eager to get his hands dirty and make his mark on the NY scene. Infatuated with beats and rhymes, NOVA got his start experimenting and fashioning beats on Fruity Loops, Logic Pro, eventualally moving on to whatever software he could get his hands on. After years of honing his craft, Cheeks has shaped his tracks to reflect his bombastic nature and electric creativity. In a word, these beats are epic recalling Cheeks' influences, progenitors like Timbaland, the Neputunes, Kanye West, and Pete Rock. NOVA noted, "They were innovators of their craft creating their own unique sound. They made the music theirs; you couldn't listen to a new song without immediately recognizing Yeezy or Pharell's influence. That's what I aim to achieve." And like West or Williams, the kid can spit, weaving wordplay with a laid back flow.
