"Kid Radio are a good, new SAFIA-sounding band"

Readers, meet Kid Radio. Kid Radio, meet The Readers. Kid Radio are three guys from Melbourne making dark, brooding, soulful electro-pop. Kid Radio are kind of like SAFIA with a slightly more heartbroken edge.

They’ve spent a year writing songs like this one for a debut album which will be released on a label called Native Tongue whom they have just signed their publishing with. Their debut single Young Heart is very amazing and they’ll do a couple of shows in their home of Melbourne to celebrate releasing it, including one as a support for another brilliant Melbourne band, Jakubi. What about Sydney :(

Those dates are below the song, which you can get on iTunes now, after you have a listen below, but not below the song where the dates are because then you’d be missing the song. - projectu.tv

"Music Review - Kid Radio"

Kid Radio are an extremely new group about to hit the scene and start making some waves. So the guys, Marcus Ross and Dylan Smith, used to be the leading force with their band Direct Influence but have split off and shacked up with producer COUNT BOUNCE (TZU, Sparkadia, Ash Grunwald) to come up with a totally new sound and to create Kid Radio.

I went along to check them out the other Friday night, the 2nd of May, at the Espy and was pretty keen to see how they’d hit it playing live as this was their first show in something like 2 years and the first time playing as Kid Radio. I got into the Espy around 10:30 with a bit of time to crunch a few jars and watch Dean Fankhauser do his thing while they lads were sound checking.

The guys came out looking pretty rad, Dyl was going for the Indie look with a buttoned collar, whereas Marcus hit the synths with a guitar slung on his back looking like a fair rad lad. They opened with a song I hadn’t heard too much of which was the tower and it really stamped what their new kid radio sound was going to be like. Synth heavy and strong lyrics. The new single Touch was second up and this brought out the acoustic guitar for Dyl. This got a few more bodies moving up to the front of the stage to jump with it or to make out like the 18yr old couple in there. It’s a very catchy fast paced song that blends the fast, bass heavy beat with vocal and that acoustic guitar to start off so everyone was loving it.

I should also mention that sort of tucked behind the guys on the small espy front bar stage was Chad Blaster helping the guys on the drum kit. So midway through there was a little bit of technical difficulty which was masked very well by some quick thinking from Dyl to give the crowd a little acoustic cover of far east before Marcus got shit happening and they dropped into the real version of far east. I found myself singing along to most of far east so it was I’d say my favourite song of the set.

After Far East they boys called up Jess Harlen from the band “Cocoa Jackson Lane”, who were playing after Kid Radio. She did vocals for the track Weary Traveler. The back and forth vocals between her and Dyl were pretty spot on so I’m not too sure how much time they’ve had to play together but they nailed it.

After a few more song the guys had to cut the gig a few tracks short due to the unfortunate tech error but really left the stage with a solid show under their belts. Being their first gig there was obviously few very slight creases to iron out but they were sounding fucking awesome. I’m so into their new sound, it’s unreal.

They have an album finished and in the mix to get released in the near future and I’ve been lucky enough to get the chance to catch up with guys soon for an interview which will posted in the next month or so. So make sure you look out for that but in the meantime check the guys out on; - Blaire Magazine

Bio

It's all about the music. No matter how the technology changes, we're all still just kids tuning in to our favourite tracks. KID RADIO is going to take you on a journey. And it's going to be awesome.

DYLAN SMITH is your narrator, sharing through song, how sound shapes life through time, like a monsoon to a pebble. Having it’s way with the world from the past to beyond the future.

The experience is built on the beats, chords and hooks of MARCUS ROSS, CHAD BLASTER & TOM BUTT, manipulating each note to coerce you along the journey. And now – KID RADIO begins.

You realise you joined for the familiarity of The XX, SBTRKT, Disclosure, The Presets and Miike Snow, but stayed for something different – the deep, soulful vocals of your narrator throws a unique flavour into KID RADIO jutting through noise to make time for sound.

After dedicating over a year to writing and perfecting their stunning live show, Melbourne’s own soulful electronic trio KID RADIO are proud to announce the release of their new single, ‘Young Heart’.

KID RADIO are also excited to announce that they have signed a publishing deal with industry heavyweights Native Tongue for the upcoming studio album.

‘Young Heart’ is an exciting vortex of dance rhythms and soulful vocals, all brought to life by the band’s incredible live production. The story is carried along by Dylan Smith’s heartfelt narration, which glides over a sprawling landscape of synths, keys and one hell of an addictive beat. Indeed, it’s their unique twist of urban lyricism and dance sensibilities that make the three-piece a breath of fresh air.
