"Madonna vs. Monsieur Adi, Is Tropical, Kanye West, Duncan Gerow, Kids And Chemicals"

This week I got a message from Kids and Chemicals, a duo from Springfield, Missouri. They offer some of their tracks up as free downloads on Soundcloud, and their most recent recording caught my ear. It’s called ‘Bottle Fly’ and it is a pretty unique project. It a bit of a Punk / Trip-hop blend (I guess) with 8-bit sounds and samples of a man talking about opium. If only I could understand what vocalist Elizabeth, is singing, but somehow I haven’t figured it out yet. And it doesn’t even matter, it actually works for this track. Very nice work! - Jackplug Blog

"Kids and Chemicals - Bottle Fly"

The last Kids and Chemicals is an unhealthy pleasure. The duo based in Springfield abolishes the suffocated roaring in a pillow, and, like a diying nintendo 64, it speaks only about liberation.
My ears didn't know what to hear during the first listening of Bottle Fly, I preferred simply and with a lot of pleasure, to give myself a rough ride. - The Discoverialist

"Kids and Chemicals"

If you’re into the indie music scene at all you know what it means to discover the unheard. I’m claiming firsties on this one y’all. There is a hand full of people I can’t legitimately claim that around. But it’s a small group. At a relevant club or bar in any other city, it’s mine. They are Kids and Chemicals, brother and sister, Patrick and Liz Carney. They played there debut show on Oct. 8th in their hometown and current base of operations, Springfield, MO. They recently returned home from playing a pre-show at FunFunFunFest in Austin and getting back to finishing their debut EP, hopefully coming in early January.
Kids and Chemicals could easily fall into anything from trip-hop or chill to electro or dream pop. You’ll hear chill like samples as well as danceable beats. Dark synths accompanied with haunting effects bring an erie mood. Throw in some subtly intimate and emotional lyrics. Chopped up distorted vocals. And you have pulsating brain vibrations from one ear to the other. Tasteful wobbles are used in the Jolie Holland cover of “Morphine.” Electric guitars lay nicely behind the chorus in “Gone.” I can’t decide if I want to dance, lean the seat back, or reminisce about loves I’ve lost. Thanks to them I’ve become a master at multi tasking and do all three at the same time.
Spit out your bubblegum cause this ain’t no candy colored electro pop. I haven’t found any music more fitting for the shorter days and change in seasons than Kids and Chemicals. They sent me a few tracks just for y’all. Throw on your hoodie and turn it up. Bio

With an electronic style atypical of southwest Missouri, brother-sister duo Elizabeth and Patrick Carney form Kids and Chemicals.

Drawing from a kaleidoscope of musical styles, Kids and Chemicals’ beat-driven tracks reference hip-hop, soul, IDM and jazz, but the result is unexpected: Patrick Carney’s production is dark and turbulent, and singer Elizabeth Carney possesses the voice to match. Whether howling through a flurry of hyper-edited pops and buzzes or harmonizing alongside vibrant synth melodies, her vocals are haunting and, at times, savage. The pair executes a distinctly memorable, high-energy stage presence that often features improvised editing and live visual effects.

Kids and Chemicals formed in early 2010 and released their first self-titled record in 2011. They are currently working on a new EP, which is set to be released in the spring of 2013.
