Bio

Evocative, wistful and driving, ‘Tucan’ is the first single from bedroom pop duo KidsOf88’s second album Modern Love, through the Dryden Street label.

‘Tucan’ sees Sam McCarthy’s chart certified voice blend into a soundworld composed of hip-hugging Kudoro drum rhythms, ethereal acapella arrangements and water droplet melodies. With a vocal assist from Alisa Xayalith of The Naked And Famous, ‘Tucan’ uncovers a soaring sense of yearning previously unseen within KidsOf88’s oeuvre.

Firm friends and bedroom musical collaborators since their early teens, as KidsOf88, Aucklander's McCarthy and his counterpoint Jordan Arts first hit the spotlight back in 2009, through their off the cuff breakout single, 'My House'.

The KidsOf88 rode this runaway hit until the wheels fell off, pushing themselves over the line into a haze of gold and platinum certified singles, top ten chart success, a worldwide major label record deal, international touring, MTV appearances and the 2010 release of their debut album Sugarpills. Alongside this, through their second single 'Just a Little Bit', came the 2010 New Zealand Music Awards for 'Single of The Year' and 'Best Music Video'.

Building momentum worldwide through their energetic live performances and cleverly orchestrated music videos, they've fashioned themselves a stone cold reputation for consistent hit-making and sure-fire good times. Having seen the world through their music, and grown a little bit wiser, they're now focused on writing innovative pop for a genuinely global audience.

Still very much in love with the universally communicative power of pop, with Modern Love, the Kids unite this centrality with their passion for fringe dwelling bedroom beat music, creating an aesthetic which while still traversing the peaks of pure pop, hedges more explorative approaches to songwriting and form into the mix.

Cathartic and immersive, Modern Love stretches their musical visions into a vibrant widescreen panorama. Equal parts weird, wonderful, obtuse and direct, the end results cohesively bind together with a blindsiding transformative harmony.
