"Word Music By Kile Atwater and Tev95"

Local artist TeV95 has got his grind on high speed these days, and his most recent project is the freshly released EP Stand Clear of the Closing Doors with vocalist Kile Atwater. The free EP features the forward thinking side of 95's beats and draws from a broad enough palette while remaining cohesive. And Atwater makes good by continuing his theme of perseverance with some aware lyrics. As singer he’s missing range, but as a word musician he makes some sense.

The effort features “It’s All Good”, which dropped as a single only weeks ago, and it’s the highpoint. But “Get Up” is a strong follow up. The beat quickly settles into a striding momentum with its kick-crinkle rhythm, drum rolls, and airy synths. The scattered syncopation and distant dropping percussive effects make for a subtle complexity that doesn’t challenge Atwater’s voice as the focus. He uses that effective spotlight to challenge weathered souls to strive forward with a spare delivery. It’s uplifting while conscious of adversity.

Catch Atwater on Oct. 27th at National Underground in the LES. - The Bushwick News/Bushwick BK

"Melancholic Pop By Kile Atwater And TeV95"

Despite everything, it’s all good. That’s the message of this weighty new track that focuses on the pressure and pain only to ultimately conclude things will be alright. Sung by newcomer Kile Atwater and produced by TeV95, it’s certainly “a blend of dark pop with a neo-soul influence, a melancholic record of sorts, but with a positive message,” as they state.

TeV95 lives in the area and runs a media collective and creative workspace based out of Brooklyn Fireproof called 95 Labs. It’s his production work that carries the tune with its metronomic claps, giant submerged kicks, vocal edits and more. It’s all very subtle, allowing Atwater center stage, and yet their presence is still quite formidable. - The Bushwick News/BushwickBK

"Introducing: Kile Atwater"

Some people have to be good at everything, don’t they? Take NYC-based crooner and How To Make It in America thesp Kile Atwater, who’s only been recording music for two months and isn’t too shabby with the ol’ vocal cords. Not that he’d admit it. ‘It’s All Good’ doesn’t follow the happy-go-bluesy tone of the show’s theme tune so much as leer dangerously towards the darker, alternative sound of ‘Getting Nowhere’ type dance cuts. The track name’s relevance only reaches us when the longing, loitering verses die, and even then, it’s only the kind of reassurance a wannabe actor gives themselves in the foyer before entering an audition they won’t get; soul in its sparsest, spluttered form.

Bio

Kile Atwater (pronounced like Kyle) is an American singer-songwriter, & recording
artist born in Atlanta, GA on July 18th, 1991. Kile spent most of his life in Houston, TX, where he began performing. Currently, Kile resides in New York City and released his first EP in 2009 STAND CLEAR OF THE CLOSING DOORS.

As a singer Kile began recording in May 2011 after being contacted by record producer TeV95 who discovered Atwater on YouTube performing a cover of the Beatles song "Oh Darling". Influenced by a wide array of musical genres, Kile records a unique sound of pop and alternative music.

The development of his unique style is a direct result of the powerful effect music has had on his life. Growing up in a single parent household, his sound was shaped primarily by his mother, who played everything from Lauryn Hill and Stevie Wonder, to The Beatles and Harry Belafonte. Atwater grew a passion for performing at a young age, often singing in run-down venues in Texas from just 9 years old. He was actively involved in theater and music in school, staying after school for hours for play and choir rehearsals, using his talent as an escape from a less-then-stable home environment.

He is planning on releasing a second EP titled L O W_ produced by: JNTHN STEIN on September 17th 2013.
