Killer Crocs of Uganda Release Debut Album, Almost Lost Tomorrow

KCoU CD Release Party January 11, 2008 Emo’s Lounge

Austin, TX — December 5, 2007 — The Killer Crocs of Uganda, an Austin, TX-based independent rock band, today announced the release of their debut album, Almost Lost Tomorrow. The album, which was recorded at Jacketweather Studios, features nine original songs written and played by band members Lance Ellisor, vocals and guitar; Scott Lambie, back-up vocals and guitar; Brian Bassett on drums; and Mark Macina on the bass guitar.

Austin Music + Entertainment Magazine writes “Although they seem like the kind of band that would eat the Cure for lunch, there’s a bit of New Wave undertone to their heavy metal. If progressive rock radio lives up to its name, they should find some airplay before too long.”

The album will be released on January 11th at the band’s CD release party at Emo’s Lounge, a top live music venue in Austin’s Red River district. Sharing the Emo’s stage will be Austin rock experts She Craves, and D.E.M.O.

Within a few months, the band plans to release videos for the first two singles, the country punk ballad “You Can’t Bring Me Down” and tough lullaby “Mirage”. Fans can also preview singles from the album on www.KillerCrocsofUganda.com, along with footage from the recording session, pictures and more.

The band plans to copy the groundbreaking distribution model recently launched by notable rock band Radiohead. "We are selling the album for whatever our fans decide to pay," said Lambie. "As long as they decide to pay more than ten bucks" he later mumbled. "We do plan to pass out some posters and maybe sell some t-shirts during the January show." said Macina. "You should really plan to show up and get this stuff; it will be super rare in 25 years," added Bassett. "Yeah, people won't even have access to cotton after the icebergs melt," giggled Macina.

Almost Lost Tomorrow CDs will be available for purchase at the Emo’s release party. After the release party, CDs will be available at Waterloo Records, and the music will be available for download both on major online music stores like iTunes and Rhapsody, as well as on the band website.

Almost Lost Tomorrow showcases the band’s exceptional music and song writing talent along with its unique style of rock-and-roll, which is a blend of 80s rock, new wave and punk undertones. Songs like “Carry On” and “Waxing Gibbons” feature Ellisor’s formidable guitar riffs and raw vocals. The album also features some of the bands older and harder-rocking songs like “Heretic Assaulter" and “I Told a Lie” that trip memories of songs by Helmet and the Smashing Pumpkins.

“Releasing this album gives us the hope we need to carry on with our mundane lives,” Ellisor said. “We plan to spend the next year or so playing live and writing new music.”

About KCoU

Formed in 2005, the Killer Crocs of Uganda have been infecting Austin’s live music scene with a virulent set of hard rock originals and the occasional, underappreciated B-side cover from punk and arena-rock legends like Devo, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest.

On the surface, KCoU’s band members may appear to be your average, thirty something cubical-dwelling office monkeys, but they are in fact a group of semi-talented, stubborn and idealistic musicians who have never actually been to Uganda. They also believe it's never too late to suck the teat of rock super stardom.

Bio

Killer Crocs of Uganda enjoy referring to themselves in the 3rd person. Their music starts with the hard rock foundations of bands like Foo Fighters and Soundgarden, adds soaring textures and melodies ala Smashing Pumpkins, and finishes with due deference paid to the rock & punk gods of the 70s and 80s.

Brian and Lance hail from Clear Lake, in the shadow of the Johnson Space Center. High school buddies, they experimented in various bands until college and life happened. Nearly 20 years later, inspired by Halloween beer and tech career drudgery, they refound the passions that drew them to the Live Music Capital of the World. ..

Greg Brooke joined the band in 2009 bringing his own meaty style of bass, coming from glam-metal roots, and arena rock experience.

Killer Crocs of Uganda released their first album, Almost Lost Tomorrow, in 2008. They're working on a second album due out in early 2010.
