"Killing Industry CD Release Show w/Fatback Circus and Tongue Tied Lightning @ Dirty Dog Bar 5/21"

Killing Industry, the Texas originated and reggae-influenced group will be showcasing their CD Release this Friday at the Dirty Dog, yet this group is anything but dirty. With a history stemming from the good ole high school garage band days, Killing Industry has dedicated the past three meticulous years to creating their new album “Will Never See the Light” in order to ensure their notorious sound of smooth and pristine vocals is accompanied by a perfect infusion of ska roots and indie rock. It’s apparent through the incorporation of beautiful guitar rifts and interjections of a sophisticated trumpet sound, that each of these guys’ portray their personalities through their musical talent, which allows the audience to jive to such soulful and driving beats.

From humble beginnings in the summer of 2006, Sam Berniard and Chad Gowan started Killing Industry, and were later joined by Mark Hammett and Jason Harrison. Drawing upon their own experiences with putting yourself ‘out there’, from performing in front of the public to exposing yourself in relationships, their new album proves to send an inspirational and upbeat message that nothing should bring you down when you follow your heart in life. Over the years, Killing Industry has maintained a constant and common goal of harnessing an innate passion for making music from the heart and in doing so, has acquired a natural fan base.

From the melodic influences resembling the likes of The Police to the harmonic vocals and brassy additions similar to The Dismemberment Plan, Killing Industry’s manages to stand out from the somewhat saturated market in Austin and never fails to give an incredible performance that you don’t want to miss.

Get to the Dirty Dog early and check out Tongue Tied Lightning’s psychadelic take on country western music at 9:30 and Austin’s own avant-garde rockers, Fatback Circus at 10:30. - do512blog.com

"Killing Industry Will Never See The Light at Trophys [Saturday]"

Trophys is the embodiment of a "hole in the wall." The atmosphere is simply no frills—dimly lit, black walls, spray-painted exit sign, bartenders that wait on you when they get around to it. It's suiting then that Trophys, which is tucked away in a quiet pocket on South Congress, will serve as the host of a CD release show for local reggae-influced group Killing Industry's Will Never See the Light. The release has been three years in the making, and it seems like there may be some light after all for Killing Industry.

The group doesn't possess the typical self-aggrandizing nature of many Austin musicians. They just focus on making good music and garner a natural following. They've been in the biz for awhile (most since high school age) and have taken music beyond just something to do as a bored angsty teen. Killing Industry even record, mix and master their own stuff at home-based Puffin Studios, showing they know both the science and soul behind music. Seasoned musicians Sam Berniard and Chad Gowan dabbled in several projects around the Houston area before creating Killing Industry in 2006. Mark Hammett, Kyle Williams and Jason Harrison joined shortly after, toting impressive resumes as well.

Each member's characteristic talent and desire to make beautiful music is supported by their alluring stage presence. The live performance packs a supreme mix of bohemian flavor and ska roots. The deal is sweetened with they throw a little trumpet and maraca into the mix. Song influences include broken relationships, music sharing and everyone's favorite—pizza. The well-rounded tunes on Will Never See The Light are full of passion and intensity and completed with clever titles: "How's the Survivings, Eh?", "Pseudo Suicide Scene" and "Sunflower Tentacle Party" to name a few. With influences ranging from The Police to Of Montreal, the group layers complex syncopation and fleeting harmonies with bluesy guitar licks and breathtaking vocals.

Step in early for performances from Perfect Pants (a progressive pop bunch with amazing britches) and Holiday (a sweet indie clan with tropical tones). Be sure to pick up a copy of the Will Never See the Light EP for five bucks. - Austinist

"Preview: Killing Industry Tonight at Trophy's"

With hangovers subdued and normal routines back in place, it’s time to take on the New Year and explore the multitude of talented band’s you might have missed in 2008. One such under appreciated band is Killing Industry, a reggae themed indie rock outfit taking 2009 (and mediocre music) by storm with city-eating babies and soothing charm. Seasoned musicians Sam Berniard and Chad Gowan dabbled in several projects around the Houston area before creating Killing Industry in 2006. Mark Hammett and Jason Harrison joined shortly after, toting impressive resumes as well. Each member’s characteristic talent and desire to make beautiful music is supported by their alluring stage presence.

The already solid lineup will be sweetened a bit at Friday’s show with the first appearance from keyboardist Kyle Williams.

With influences from The Police to Of Montreal, the group layers complex syncopation and fleeting harmonies, fastened with a familiar ribbon. The guys have a 5-song EP entitled 1,000 Sides That Never See the Light, full of bluesy guitar licks and Berniard’s breathtaking vocals. Tonight’s performance promises kindred bohemian tunes distorted with segments of ska. Opening gigs include the bubbly soft local act Rook and Tin Can Phone, who packs staccato-braised acoustics. Even with a bounty of free music available in the Red River area this weekend for the kick off of Free Week, this act is worth the five bucks. If you find yourself south of the river, head to Trophy’s for some good old-fashioned pleasantries. - Austinist
