"Senses Fail"

Tasked with opening proceedings this evening are local band Kill Joy City. Their sound incorporates influences from the Metal and J-Rock genres which makes for an interesting mix. ‘Yamanai Ame’ is a notable highlight of their set and example of this combination, consisting of a Bullet For My Valentine/Avenged Sevenfold-esque intro riff with Japanese lyrics. The most memorable part of their set is a cover of System of a Down’s mighty, ‘Aerials’. It’s a credible effort and the venue, which by this point has started to fill up, certainly seems to enjoy it. - Midlands Rocks

"Senses (don't) Fail"

As the room slowly filled up Kill Joy City was the first band to take to the stage. I had not heard of this band before but they announced that they were from the Birmingham area and I always have a bit of a soft spot for local talent. As they rolled on through their set, they definitely had elements of early Bullet For My Valentine but with an old school rock twist. It seemed to me that the band was perhaps not as experienced as the others on the bill but I reckon they have great potential. The more venues they play, the tighter their sound will become and the more confident they will be when working the crowd. - New Beats Media
