Bio

kills to kisses is the solo project of Australian Double bassist, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Lisa Dowling.

Praised as “Bjork-like” and “innovative” by the New York Times, Lisa Dowling has had her ears and fingers in the post-classical, post-rock, post-post world of sound since she started writing solo music for the double bass a few years ago. Wanting to give her beloved chosen instrument a fresh voice, she created kills to kisses to showcase the unique and surprising capabilities of an instrument that is usually not recognized for its virtuosity. Her music is bass-centric, but not in the way you would expect. Luscious melodies soar over funky bass riffs, showcasing her amazing dexterity and grace. Her mastery of looping technology and love of texture creates a cinematic language that is like no other. ‘Beautiful, dark, rare’ are words that will likely enter your mind as the “brusquely subtle or exquisitely dense” (Inanna Naked) tapestries wash over you. Equally at home shredding her bass with classically inspired riffs, layering hiphop bass lines over a produced track or telling quirky, pop-inspired stories with her “delicate and pure” (Woodstock Times) voice, kills to kisses takes you on a intimate journey that will leave you with your lips all wet, warm and fuzzy. She has been presented at the Berkshire Fringe Festival,  the Contagious Sounds Series and regularly performs in and around NYC.

She is joined by Drummer Carson Moody, Flutist Domenica Fossati and Spoken word artist, Equiano Mosieri
