"Toronto’s KILMANJARO evoke intrigue from the off with the incredible “14”"

By describing themselves as "sacred jungle", "floating dream" and "spirit temple", Toronto quartet KILMANJARO arouse immediate curiosity.

Their most recent song, "14", does actually float like a dream, leaving you gazing for what seems like hours whilst the track's bouncing bubble beats bring your limbs into a sacred trance.

Consisting of bandmates Kaan Gunesberk, Ian Culley, Ryan Macdonald, Luke Graves - all musicians from an "emerging scene in Toronto and Berlin" (NYK Records) - KILMANJARO remind one of early Mount Kimbie demos but with a more modest swagger.

Layered vocals and well harnessed electronics place you on a high that you feel will only come alive when it's dark out. Their nocturnal tendencies are complemented by the idea of pairing them with a pill and an all night TV static.

Ryan Macdonald from the group explains the tracks origins: '“14” is about the struggle with anxiety and self doubt as well as the pains of letting someone go. The first half is asking yourself the question, and the second half is finding the answer..."

Taken from KILMANJARO's upcoming debut LP, "14" would fit perfectly in indie movies galore (say Garden State or something of a similar ilk).

It also wouldn't look out of place with a late night slot at Latitude Festival. If you close your eyes, you can already see girls with glitter encompassed eyes glistening in the festival lights, their hands making shapes neither of you can explain.

Listen to "14" below, it's our Song Of The Day. - The Line of Best Fit

- Radio Terminal

"The Matinee January 28th Edition"

Not too much is known about Toronto-based, electronic producer KILMANJARO, other than that he’s creating some really innovative and expansive music. His style isn’t the electronic that we’ve become accustomed to hearing. So instead of channeling Calvin Harris or SKRILLEX, he’s looked towards a source that may surprise you – Radiohead. His latest single, “14”, personifies the experimental electronic of Radiohead’s King of Limbs and even as early as OK Computer and Amnesiac. “14” is a terrific, mind-bending trip. - The Revue

Bio

Kilmanjaro is a unique and emerging four-piece electronic band from Toronto. The band's live show is quickly gaining reputation for its use of two drummers (Luke Graves and Ryan Macdonald) who both play half-acoustic, half-electronic kits. This past June, they performed at Field Trip festival and were recently added to Red Bull Sound Select's artist roster. In April of this year the band’s third single, 14, was named song of the day by popular UK blog Line of Best Fit.

The music's dense drum layering and warped sound effects take influence from early UK Dubstep (James Blake, Burial) and Dance. Writers Kaan Gunesberk and Ian Culley present those sounds through linear song structures and simple, dreamy vocal melodies.

Their debut LP A Place Unknown To All You Ever Say is set for release on January 20th, 2017 followed by tour dates in Toronto, Hamilton, Kingston, Ottawa and Montreal and a music video.
