"The Vinyl District features Kim Killspeed"

We have the pleasure of premiering the newest single from the Sydney-based rockers whose anticipated EP “Second Skin” is due out later this year. “Inside” finds the band reigning in their messy blues gravitas for a more streamlined approach and hook-driven sound.

The new direction might possibly have to do with producer Jeff Martin of The Tea Party whose signature jangly, open tuned stamp is written all over it. That said, the band’s distinct characteristics are still warmly accounted for—particularly Andie Davies’ and Bruce Stephens’ muscular guitar lines and Candy Cunningham’s earthy songwriting which prods the listener to throw caution to the wind and pursue the impassioned voices in their head. - The Vinyl District

"Kim Killspeed"

Kim Killspeed is a blues rock band from Sydney in Australia comprising Candy, Andy and Bruce plus supporting cast.

Torturous evocations greet the ears as Kim Killspeed deliver finely sliced sounds which swallow up the room in their considered acoustic presentation. An absolutely stunning vocal captivates the mind to which guitar scurries around in the shadows as a gentle percussion sets the framework.

Kim Killspeed don’t seek to stride new grounds across the landscape of music, but what they have to add is an inspirational touch of brush stroke as they take familiar territory and shoulder themselves into a poise of confidence, with which the audience can engage. The trio add a depth of consternation to genre as they offer music of currency within a concept of the past.

Whilst mastered tracks give Kim Killspeed a smoother feel, which is reflected in their début release Ultrasound – EP – Kim Killspeed*- which surfaced at the end of last month, it is in live performance that I think this would work best as the rawness makes this work far better and with some pleasure, I am able to offer you a track from the unpolished version of what they are about, a song which isn’t on the EP – which will come as no surprise to regular readers. - Emerging Indie bands

Ultrasound EP,
5 track EP released 30 May 2015

Named after a car crash, Kim Killspeed is an Aussie original band, fronted by Candy Cunningham,  and we deliver a blend of folky, pop messy guitars, tight drum grooves and beautifully melodic vocals. We are a band of weird people, ranging from a 21-year-old on drums, to a 57-year-old on lead guitar, and every decade covered in between!

Whilst there is a lot of history, talent and experience in the band, Kim Killspeed is a relatively new project, given we only formed around 2 years ago. The band has huge plans for 2016 and we have kicked off the New Year with a tour of New Zealand.  We are also playing charity fundraiser shows for Youth off the Streets - supporting young people that find themselves homeless as a result of violence, abuse, drugs or alcohol.

Our debut EP, called ‘Ultrasound’ (as Candy was pregnant during the writing and recording) was released in May 2015.  All 5 tracks have been extensively played on radio in Australia, USA and the UK. We are back in the studio at the moment recording our follow-up EP, to be called ‘Second Skin’.  This new EP includes 3 totally new songs not heard before by our fans. ‘Get Within’ is scheduled for release in mid 2016.
