"One To Watch"

The South London singer who is releasing her new EP, Liar, later this month, gave up singing in 2011 because she didn't feel she was getting anywhere, "I tried every genre, I was a musical chameleon" she says, "There was enough wishy washy music out there." But after making some new acoustic indie-pop demos, she was signed to Polydor last year. She first started performing at her local poetry night, but as she always took along her keyboard and sang, a career in music was probably never that far away. - The Independent

"Kimberly Anne - Liar"

Back in February we had an awesome opportunity to premiere Bastille's remix of a song called "Hard As Hello" by Kimberly Anne. It had a distinctly "Bastille" sound to it, and so -- in a sense -- we never got to appreciate the true beauty of Kimberly's music.

There's good news, though! Today we're debuting a new song by the title "Liar." The single comes as the lead track on the South-London-based artist's upcoming EP Liar, to be released on July 27th via Polydor.

I'm digging the folk-pop sensibility here, and the quality of production really shines through. That's no surprise, though: Kimberly has enlisted an all-star cast to put the finishing touches on her EP, including Mark Crew (of Bastille), Rich Wilkinson (Lianne La Havas) and Charlie Hugall (Florence & The Machine). - Indie Shuffle

Kimberly Anne
It’s pop but not pop.

On the surface, Kimberly Anne’s output is short, sweet, melodic – all the things classic pop songs strive to be.

Yet, underneath all this, the South London artist has brought together all manner of challenging, left field influences.

Kicking off her career at spoken word nights, Kimberly Anne has evolved gradually, steadily building her voice in the process. New EP ‘Liar’ collects the results, and Clash can stream it in full.

Opening cut ‘Liar’ is a golden pop gem, while ‘Girl Next Door’ has a sort of Paul Simon, ‘Gracelands’ era feel. ‘Almost On My Feet’ is triumphant, soulful while Jakwob steps into the fray to re-work the title track. - Clash

Bio

South London artist Kimberly Anne is a unique breed. A cursory glance at her ever expanding Twitter profile shows a young lady not hugely interested in creating any sense of false mystique, preferring to breakdown any idea of a boundary between artist and fan. It’s made her a whole heap of new friends in the process

Having grown up fascinated by the music of The Cure, Bloc Party, and Tracy Chapman and the narrative rapping of Nas and Common. Kimberly Anne started out performing at the local South London poetry nights, but a tender word from an encouraging booker broke the news to Kimberly that performing with a keyboard is, really, more musician than poet, forcing her to admit she had quite accidentally become a songwriter.
