Biography

Kim Capps is the real deal. Her songs and her powerful delivery all touch the soul on her new CD “Blues Gonna Show the Way”.

When Kim sings, she brings it and she owns it. In addition to her strong, beautiful voice, she is a songwriter with a unique ability to access joy and pain in a way that invites the listener to join right in and come along for the ride.

A performer for much of her adult life, she first became known locally leading the Unusual Suspects. She found her true voice when she dove head first into the acoustic blues. She is a valued member of the Barbershop jams sponsored by the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation (www.acousticblues.com).

The blues got into her heart and they shape her songwriting and musical connection. She wails Robert Johnson’s “Love in Vain” with depth and beautiful dynamics. She becomes a sensuous siren on her own “Deep Blue. In another original, “Raise Your Voice”, she claims and shares the powerful right to ask the right questions. These and all cuts on “Blues Gonna Show the Way” showcase her ability to sing blues and gospel side by side. In her able hands the listener is gifted with music that echoes our human need for both tears and vision, expressed through sorrow and hope.

She’s influenced by her study and collaborations with many amazing musicians of the highest caliber, including Gaye Adegbalola of Saffire, the Uppity Blues Woman, piano virtuoso Roddy Barnes, and blues woman Maria Woodford. And as you’ll know when you hear her sing her songs, she is a true student of life in the world that surrounds her. Lucky us- we get the healing power of her shared passion and musical vision in a package that is as entertaining as it is uplifting.

Lyrics

When My Feet Are Cold

Written By: Kim K. Capps

I bumped into your sister
on the corner Monday night
full of lots of questions
about my job and my new life
I filled her in on all the news
as we stood there on the street
but I kept one little secret
about me
and my cold feet

she said that she knew
you did not treat me well
she suspected when I left
you put me through some hell
we spoke about my new place
but I guess I never told
that deep in the night
it don’t feel right
when my feet are cold

they dangle and they wander at the end of my bed
like countless memories of you
slip-slidin’ through my head
even quilts and flannel sheets cannot end the chill
each night they run a search for you
seems like
they always will

I heard that you painted,
since I moved away
and the rose bed I planted
has seen less thorny days
I guess you’ve heard I’m doing fine
but I doubt that you’ve been told
that deep in the night,
it don’t feel right
when my feet are cold

they dangle and they wander at the end of my bed
like countless memories of you
slip-slidin’ through my head
even quilts and flannel sheets cannot end the chill
each night they run a search for you
seems like
they always will

I came to think that leaving you was my pains’ only cure
And the night I stormed out of the house
I must have seemed quite sure
but I just had to call tonight,
in case you need to know
that deep in the night,
it don’t feel right
when my feet are cold
deep in the night,
it don't feel right
when my feet are cold

Fall

Written By: Kim K. Capps

I want you,
I want you to want me
like the ocean longs to touch the shore
every time you pull away,
you come back for more
leave your treasures at my feet
come and kiss my shimmering cheek
when I hear your roaring call
I want to fall together
Fall together
Fall

I want you,
I want you to pine for me
like some evergreen rising tall
towering over us, standing in its shadow
we stumble,
then we fall together,
fall together
fall

I want you to spark fire in my heart
the light from which I cannot hide
and we can warm ourselves, side by side
and fall together
fall together
fall

I’ve stood at this ledge, oh, how many times?
seems one topples right over,
one stays behind
I want to reach for your hand
do you want to reach for mine
we can fall together
fall together
fall

Deep Blue

Written By: Kim K. Capps

Now that you left,
my life ain’t gonna crumble
though may I shed a tear or two
but a shadow has fallen
and turned my poor heart
a deep shade of blue

I’m better off,
and soon I’ll do some dancin’
have no more tear drops
and no more thoughts of you
you treated me mean,
and I can do much better
but till I do,
for now I’m deep blue

Chorus:
I’m deep blue, like the ocean when it thunders
I’m deep blue like the midnight sky
in time, I know my world will be much brighter
but, if I tell the truth,
for now I’m deep blue

The winter wind’s moaning a mournful sound
the nights are bone-chilling too
if I were with you now,
I’d be kissing you
I’m better off,
you’re not what I thought you were
not a word of love you spoke was true
I need to move on, but for right now
I am missing you, and yes I’m deep blue
