Biography

Kim Capps is the real deal. Her songs and her powerful delivery all touch the soul on her new CD “Blues Gonna Show the Way”.
When Kim sings, she brings it and she owns it. In addition to her strong, beautiful voice, she is a songwriter with a unique ability to access joy and pain in a way that invites the l Wheistener to join right in and come along for the ride.

A lifelong performer, she first became known locally leading the Unusual Suspects. She found her true voice when she dove head first into the acoustic blues. She is a valued member of the Barbershop jams sponsored by the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation (www.acousticblues.com).

The blues got into her heart and they shape her songwriting and musical connection. She wails Robert Johnson’s “Love in Vain” with depth and beautiful dynamics. She becomes a sensuous siren on her own “Deep Blue. In another original, “Raise Your Voice”, she claims and shares the powerful right to ask the right questions. These and all cuts on “Blues Gonna Show the Way” showcase her ability to sing blues and gospel side by side. In her able hands the listener is gifted with music that echoes our human need for both tears and vision, expressed through sorrow and hope.

She’s influenced by her study and collaborations with many amazing musicians of the highest caliber, including Gaye Adegbalola of Saffire, the Uppity Blues Woman, piano virtuoso Roddy Barnes, and blues woman Maria Woodford. And as you’ll know when you hear her sing her songs, she is a true student of life in the world that surrounds her. Lucky us- we get the healing power of her shared passion and musical vision in a package that is as entertaining as it is uplifting.

Fall lyrics

Written By: Kim K. Capps

Fall
By Kim K. Capps

I want you, I want you to want me

Like the ocean longs to touch the shore

Every time you pull away, you come back for more

Leave your treasures at my feet

Come and kiss my shimmering cheek

When I hear your roaring call

I want to fall, together

Fall together

Fall

I want you, I want you to pine for me

Like some evergreen rising tall

Towering over us, standing in its shadow

We stumble, then we fall

Fall together, fall together

Fall

I want you to spark fire in my heart

The light from which I cannot hide

And we can warm ourselves, side by side

And fall together

I’ve stood at this ledge, oh, how many times?

Seems one topples right over,

One stays behind

I want to reach for your hand

Do you want to reach for mine

We can fall together

Deep Blue lyrics

Written By: Kim Capps

Deep Blue
K. K. Capps
Now that you left,
my life ain’t gonna crumble
though may I shed a tear or two
but a shadow has fallen
and turned my poor heart
a deep shade of blue

I’m better off,
and soon I’ll do some dancin’
have no more tear drops
and no more thoughts of you
you treated me mean,
and I can do much better
but till I do,
for now I’m deep blue

Chorus:
I’m deep blue, like the ocean when it thunders
I’m deep blue like the midnight sky
in time, I know my world will be much brighter
but, if I tell the truth,
for now I’m deep blue

The winter wind’s moaning a mournful sound
the nights are bone-chilling too
if I were with you now,
I’d be kissing you
I’m better off,
you’re not what I thought you were
not a word of love you spoke was true
I need to move on, but for right now
I am missing you, and yes I’m deep blue

(repeat chorus)

Blues Gonna Show the Way lyrics

Blues Gonna Show the Way
K. K. Capps

Yes, yes, sometimes they just do! Sometimes, you just got to go through the brokenness to get to the healing….

I got no words to heal my broken heart
no words to tell of how you tore my world apart
not enough to answer all my questions about you
I got no words, but I got the blues

I got no magic to make you reappear
no spell to conjure up the voice I long to hear
no potion strong enough to save my heart from you
I got no magic, no magic but the blues

bridge:
blues, won’t you flow right through my veins,
embrace my body in your bitter-sweet refrain
just take me over, hold my trembling hand
and take me down, down, down, so I can come up again

there is no river that can wash away your name
no water cleanse your memory from my memory’s window pane
no current strong enough to carry me away from you
I got no river, but I got the blues

repeat bridge

there is no grave deeper than my love
I feel the earth could swallow me, still I’m standing here above
I’m looking for some healing, to start a brand new day
but if I do, gonna be the blues that shows me the way

blues, show me the way

I Am Here

Written By: Kim K. Capps

when you have been wrestling
and the sweat beads on your skin
the night it seems unending
and a hunger growls within
your muscles ache for comfort
your hands tremble in fear
lay down, lay down, I am here

when you think your wings are broken
and you do not dare to fly
I will not leave you desolate
I’ll get you through the night
soon my wind will blow beneath you
and raise you to new heights
but now, lay down, lay down, I am here

refrain:
lay down weary one and rest upon this place
eat the bread of mercy
drink the wine of grace
lay down and listen while I sing this lullaby
lay down, lay down, I am here.

you have walked away in pride
or run away in shame
been beaten down by anger
and built up walls with blame
still I know what’s inside you
and I’m calling out your name to say
lay down, lay down, I am here

repeat refrain

when your morning comes a smiling
and you see through rested eyes
and you find a strength within you
and a love that multiplies
look around and see the ones, still wrestling through the night
and say lay down, lay down, I am here.

lay down weary one and rest upon this place
taste the bread of mercy eat the wine of grace
oh won’t you help me sing this lullaby
and say lay down, lay down, I am here.
oh, won’t you help me sing this lullaby
and say lay down, lay down, I am here

The Place Where I Belong

Written By: Kim Capps

I climb the stairs, close my eyes
till night time helps my spirit fly
to the place where I most want to be
where I am not alone
I look out and see your face
a twinkling smile, a warm embrace
they welcome me, to that place
the place where I belong

its the only time I have with you
where you love me like you wanted to
before our lives got in the way
now that time is gone

you tickle me, until I cry
its not the only reason why
I know I just cannot stay
in this place where I belong

morning brings unwanted light
the sun has come to dim my sight
I know I just cannot stay
in this place where I belong

Set List

Sets are variable for venue. We can perform 3 sets easily in an evening depending on the venue.
Our covers include: Love In Vain, She Just Wants to Dance, Mother Earth, My Man and I
For smaller venues, I would do sets with just Ian Walters on keyboards.
