Bio

“I am a woman capable of many things. God has blessed me with a gift that I believe I am destined to share.”

At first listen, it is almost impossible not to fall in love with Kim Davis’ distinctive voice. In Kim Davis, there is a rare ability to command the attention of the listener using only the instrument of her voice. From her sultry first single “Hush,” to fan favourites like “Sometimes,” Kim has always been one to truly captivate her audience.

Very much in touch with her South African roots, the fetching songstress spent most of her childhood living back and forth between Toronto and Cape Town, South Africa. Part of a musical family, Kim would often perform songs at home with her siblings and guitar playing father. Later, Kim would branch out into song-writing and singing background vocals for several emerging artists. Self-conscious of her signature raspy vocals, Kim hesitated to become a solo artist; however, she cites Keyshia Cole as a special influence in becoming confident with her own God-given talent. “Hearing Keyshia sing definitely helped me find my voice and embrace it.”

Due to her boundless talent, Kim Davis has emerged from being a fan of singers like Keyshia Cole to earning them as fans in her own right. She has toured with soul singer John Legend, opened for talents such as Robin Thicke, Alicia Keys, Ginuwine, Neyo, Jamie Foxx and has earned several accolades including a Juno nomination for her island-inspired ballad “Show Me The Way.”

Kim Davis writes honest narratives about love, pain, and tragedy over triumph with a unique fusion of soul, hip hop, dance, and reggae. Each of her songs told through melodies of hope and love offer a glimpse into her life. Growing up in Scarborough, an area in East Toronto known for being a “rough” neighbourhood, has made Kim no stranger to some of life’s most harsh realities. With strength and faith, the singer translates her life experiences into opportunities that uplift and encourage her listeners. This inspiration is evident in her acclaimed 2007 release, “Live, Love, Learn,” which has been described by fans as “moving and powerful.”

Her highly anticipated Debut album, “There’s Only One” was released at the end of 2012, and showcases Kim’s strong song-writing skills and powerhouse vocals as a true testament to her resilient spirit. Kim speaks on the album as a tool to “empower my fans to embrace the people they are, and believe in their true self.”

Since her album release, Kim has continued to be a mainstay on the radio and several noteworthy performance venues. She’s a favourite on Toronto radio stations such as, Flow 93.5 and G98.7, impressing crowds everywhere from The Metro Toronto Convention Centre, to S.O.B.’s, in New York. Kim Davis has been featured in national Canadian magazines such as Cream World, Exposé, Peace, Polysh and Sway and has received international print coverage in Fader Magazine, The Ave Magazine, Urban Voice, and Hip Hop Japan. Her brand has even extended to include features in major Canadian newsprint such as The Toronto Sun and National Post. Kim Davis has the title of being the number one unsigned artist on MySpace Canada and the only female artist on the site with over one million music plays. Kim’s intoxicating voice and truthful lyrics make her a cherished talent both locally and overseas.

Described by the media as a talent, “who has the love, courage and the lyrics to pen a woman’s evolution beautifully,” this Toronto native has seen her relentless work ethic pay off with even more fan appreciation and nationwide peer recognition. The beginning of 2010 saw Kim earn her first JUNO nomination for her reggae single, “Show Me The Way.” She also earned her forth nomination for a D.J. Stylus Award (R&B artist of the year) and three WBLK Unsigned Hype awards, which she has already won four times previously (People's Choice Award, R&B Artist of the year x 2 and Single of the year).

Although Kim speaks very humbly of herself; her achievements far outweigh her ego, earning her a career full of noteworthy accomplishments, combined with a future filled with promise.
