Kimon Kirk

Kimon Kirk

BandRockPop

Harmony-rich, guitar-driven pop-rock with a strong melodic edge and occasional country and jazz leanings.

Biography

Since arriving on the Boston music scene in 2003, bassist, vocalist and songwriter (and former elementary school teacher) Kimon Kirk has accompanied dozens of artists in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles. Shortly after joining David and Katie Champagne’s Heygoods he became a founding member of the Boston roots collective (and 2005 Boston Music Award winners) Session Americana, played upright bass in Ken Field’s Grammy-nominated avant-brass band the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, and toured and recorded with Aimee Mann, in addition to playing sideman to many of the city’s most notable rockers and songwriters. He has performed or recorded with Mann, Kris Delmhorst, Jennifer Kimball, Amy Fairchild, Rose Polenzani, Jabe Beyer, Chandler Travis, Dennis Brennan, Jimmy Ryan, Ramona Silver, Anne Heaton, Nini Camps, Jenifer Jackson, Sam Bigelow, Jess Tardy, Jake Armerding, Eileen Rose, Treat Her Right, Twinemen, Seven Mary Three, and many others.

Kirk’s forthcoming EP, Eye On You, includes six original compositions that run the gamut from harmony-laden pop-rock to hard-hitting rockabilly. The new disc features a core band of Thomas Juliano (Seven Mary Three, Talking To Animals) on electric guitars, John Sands (Aimee Mann, Lori Mckenna) on drums, and Kirk on vocals, bass, and guitar. It was engineered by Dan Hallas (Sam Phillips, Moby), and mixed by Boston legend Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Morphine) at Camp Street Studios. Mastering was handled by Big Al Anderson cohort Jim Chapdelaine. Kimon now splits his time between Los Angeles and Boston.

Lyrics

Month of Sundays

Written By: Kimon Kirk

(v1)Maybe in a month of Sundays
Maybe in a year or two
Maybe when the sun shines a hole through the moon
I'll find a way to get to you

(v2)Maybe if you think it over
Maybe when you sort things out
Maybe when the cows come home from the fields
You'll find a way to shed your doubt

(chorus) Any way that you spin your tidy pack of lies
We both know who's gonna win
And when you've finished cutting me down to size
You'll see the mess you've left us in

(v3)Maybe if we say we're sorry
Maybe when we all get old
Maybe when you know what you want out of me
I'll drop the bill of goods you sold

(Chorus)

(Bridge) People say that there are two ways of looking at a love that's past its prime
But if it feels like you're going through the motions it's a sure bet that you've just been wasting time

(Chorus)

Looking Forward to Missing You

Written By: Kimon Kirk

(v1) I've been banging 'round the house all day; I guess it serves me right
The simple things always seem to get in the way of where a good intention might

(v2) A big stack of bills and a parking pass on my desk are keeping me in line
It's all I can do for a couple of days just to get you off my mind

(ch) I've got a song to write and a trip to take
A million other things to do
My friends say that I'm just fooling myself but they couldn't have less of a clue
'Cause I'm just looking forward
Yeah I'm looking forward
Girl I'm looking forward to missing you

(v3) You could say that codependence is another lame crutch of a body who would rather stay home
And maybe I'm just trying to convince myself that I'd be better off all alone

(ch) But when the clouds roll in and the sun goes down
And I'm thinking of what might go wrong
I tell the armchair philosopher to put his seat back and get to working on what to do when you're gone

'Cause I'm just looking forward
Yeah I'm looking forward
Girl I'm looking forward to missing you

(v4) I've been banging 'round the house all day; I guess it serves me right
The simple things always seem to get in the way of where a good intention might

(ch) But when the clouds roll in and the sun goes down and I'm thinking of what might go wrong
I tell that armchair philosopher to put his seat back and get to working on what to do when you're gone

'Cause I'm just looking forward
Yeah I'm looking forward
Girl I'm looking forward to missing you
